Have to eat some crow.with a side of MWF

Well I tried the method posted here by Recluse, it turns out that MWF does actually produce lather! I was convinced that all the love for this soap was a type of hazing to get people to lose their minds and break their wrists attempting to lather it but....I must admit I was wrong. I do however still concede that this soap is far more finicky than others!

If I can lather it in this stuff in California that could be put to better use being sold as "Mineral Water"... anyone can lather it

I'm back on the MWF wagon as it heads in to winter in the southern hemisphere. I have slightly hard water where I live now, but with a few of the well-known tricks this stuff can be pretty great.

Created mounds of lather with it last night! Given the right conditions it can be a fantastic soap. Soft water and a Semogue SOC boar brush will create more lather than you could possibly imagine.

However, I understand your comment about it being finicky. For me that's Mike's and Mystic Waters. Everyone will eventually gravitate to the products that work for them. The good news is that there so many soaps and creams to choose from!

Edited: If you find this soap a problem, try Haslingers Sheep Milk Soap. Similar to MWF but extremely easy to create a yogurt like lather.

I concur on the Haslinger Ewe's Milk (Schafsmilch) w/ Lanolin..... very easy to create lather compared to MWF. The post shave feel of MWF wins over Haslinger though in my book. Both are great soaps. It's great to see the U.S. vendors carrying the Haslinger soap now. Last year at this time it was a very tough find in the U.S.

I've used the Fat twice. The first time the lather was great. Very slick. The second time... Not so much. Thin and just didn't last through a full pass. Once I figure it out it may end up being the best soap ever.

The only soaps I've used in the past few months, since getting back into wetshaving, have been MWF, Tabac, Conk and Honeybee.

Haven't been able to get a bad lather from MWF or Tabac, both of which are excellent IMO, and haven't been impressed in comparison with the Conk or Honeybee.

Recluse provides a wonderful easy and effective way to lather terrific Mitchell's Wool Fat.

Some folks have an issue with the lanolin, but for me lanolin is very beneficial ingredient. I love Mike's Natural and Wilkinson's shave sticks because of how they feel on my face. Add the benefit of a hard, triple-milled soap to those qualities and a light lemony scent and you have MWF.

I just had a breakthrough with my sample of MWF this morning - took a little finessing, little more time to lather than my TOBS, Pens and MdC but gave a great shave. Seemed to wirk to take more time between additions of water to build up the best lather. It's not at the top of my list yet, but earning a place in the rotation.

My experience with MWF was iffy. Sometimes I got great lather and sometimes not. There are to many other great soaps out there to waste time on one that doesn't work consistently. Mine went into the shower.

I too have used the various "tricks" to recently discover how good MWF is. I still don't put it (or any other English soap) on a pedestal, but I now do regard it as an excellent soap.

No doubt it is "touchy"... I'm sure water temperature and humidity affect it.
Sometimes, it's just an awesome, classic smooth shave. Other times, it dries out and flakes off of my face before I can complete a quarter-pass (one cheek, half of the neck, etc...). That doesn't happen when I'm shaving in the shower, but at the sink, it's probably a 20% "not the best".

Love me some "Fat".....It is the only hard soap I own. 1st time using it was horrid....now I've figured it out and LOVE it! Long Live Da Fat!
