My preferred strop hanging height is at about my navel level. Most more modern door handles are at that height. In older establishments, door handles can be a lot higher at close to my armpit level. I then need to find another attachment point. This often requires a longer piece of lacing.

Here is a picture of my travel strop hanging on a bathroom door handle.

My preferred travel strop is this 2¼" wide Chinese calf-hide with denim secondary. I prefer this strop for traveling as it is quite flexible, easier to roll without damage and not too expensive to loose. I have lined the denim part of this strop with chamois (my preference).

This used to be a vintage travel strop that I got cheap off the Bay; it had some worn out leather on each side. The leather was so beat up that it was no good for anything. I removed the leather and glued a piece of Shell Cordovan (210x35mm) to one side, and flax linen to the other.
The entire strop measures about 310mm in length. I just need to saw off a small part of the handle and it will fit in my dopp kit.
Only cost me £50 to make and it pretty much does the same job as my expensive Westholme Cordovan strop.
