Has Anyone Had Success With The Burma Shave Brush?

I bought one just to try it out, i've only shaved with it once however i've tested i several times. It does a great job at losing water. After 3 minutes of mixing i end up with a lather that is either to dry or to wet, one time i did have an adequate lather. Does anybody get consistently good results with it?

I use it as a travel brush without too much expectation and will not weep if it gets lost!
But it does work fine, a bit scritchy. Always afraid that the handle is going to come apart.

In the low cost category I love my Bestshave Turkish No. 6, there is no comparison. I will not replace the Burmashave, instead I'll buy another Turkish No.6 and order some blades and Arko sticks. The Turkish No.6 is actually one of my favorite brushes, even with all its quality control flaws and imperfections, it is up there with my Semogue and Omega in terms consistent delivery. In fact the imperfections have grown on me and I start liking them, not all brushes need to be perfect and pleasing to the eye to do a near perfect face lathering job, which is what I use it for.

Bestshave #6 is the better of the two brushes as far as performance is concerned.

However, you can modify the Burma Shave with a good knot and make a nice vintage looking brush.

Very nice pictorial of the donor Burmashave. Very impressive operation.
The Burmashave handle seems so light and the plastic molding very thin, it feels as if dropped it may break.
What about finding an old donor brush, the real thing with heft, on the Bay or at a flea market and use that as a donor?

You can do that, or you can add nickels or hex nuts set to the new handle with epoxy before setting the knot to add heft.
I have dropped that handle and it has held up well.

I didn't have too much luck with it. It was the first one I purchased, about a year ago at a Meijer grocery store. It cost about 3.30 plus tax, so I'm not too disappointed at the price I paid. It dropped a ton of hairs, enough to tie a Wee Scot, and it doesn't hold water to save its life.

The Burma Shave was my first brush and I got lucky with a good one for that class of brush. I still have that one in storage.
The one that I showed in the restoration was one that was very stiff and did not retain water very well, hence the restoration project.

Mine smelled absolutely revolting and no amount of washing with any soap would get rid of it!! I tossed it, but saved the cool box!! (posted elsewhere) I'm happy with my AOS and Vulfix brushes----all I need.
