Hard water update

A little while back I posted about hard water and a faucet filter I bought from Amazon. My water is ran through a softener but still has mineral. Rusting the sink and leaving film on my shaving equipment. I had to change the filter and thought I would share the dramatic differences. I recommend if you have mineral rich water. I have had this for about 3 months. 3 for $12 on amazon. So approximately $1.33 a month for me, may be more or less depending on your water situation. The difference in the 2 sinks in the bathroom and the old and new filter. The filter on the left is new.

The filters certainly seem to be doing the job. The price is right also. Good stuff.

I could use distilled water, or citric acid, baking soda etc... I found this solution, as I use my sink for washing hands, face, brushing teeth, and shaving. Shaving includes, soaking my brush, rinsing my razor between passes, and rinsing brush, mug and razor after shave. My sink drain was yellowed with rust. The hard water left a film on my razor and dried out my brushes. All that is in the past. For me this is working great. I speculate to do all those things I probably would spend a bit more in money and time with other solutions, such as distilled water and any water additives. I probably use at least 1/4 gallon a day for the things I mentioned. Probably a lot more.

Wow, that is quite dramatic in the difference! Great job finding an easy solution! I can get away with just adding citric acid, but when I visit family in the upper mid-West, my pinch of citric acid doesn't always do enough. The area my folks live in is an iron mining region, so guess what is in the water?! I remember new white tee shirts going into the washer and coming out looking yellowish or orange due to the iron. Dad now uses two if not three whole house filters in a row to keep the water better!
