Hard water issue

Is there a certain type of soap or cream that is able to produce a rich lather while using hard water? I know I can always use distilled water for shaving but I'd rather not complicate the process. Thanks everyone!

My water is hard and I have no issues with Cella or DR Harris soaps. With that being said, it's still not as good when I use softer water, but still very good.

I usually have to filter my water to get a decent lather, even with stuff like Proraso and Cella, but Tabac explodes for me even if I use tap water.

I would list them all, but it would take too long. Apply the practice of more...more water, more product and more work. With this practice, I can get great lather from pretty much any of the products discussed around here with my hard water. I have used distilled water as well, but the end result isn't any different, just how I got there.

Just curious, but which soaps/creams are currently troublesome in your hard water?

It is far less complicated to change the water than to investigate and invest in dozens of different soaps and creams trying to find the right one.

Just pick up a Britta pitcher and keep it in the bathroom. Or get a gallon of distilled water at the grocery store for about $1, that will be enough water to give you about a month's worth of shaves.

I can understand the frustration. Lathering with my well water gave me fits for a very long time until I figured a way to work with it. For me, smaller brushes with more backbone, loading more product (120-150 swirls on soap) and eventually face lathering was the key. I may not get the volumes of lather you see on youtube, but I have found face lathering with certain soaps and creams are slicker and perform better than others and that's more important. I do at times miss using my bowl and scuttle, but face lathering is what works for me. At this point I seem to be able to face lather any soap or cream with any sized brush and get a decent lather and good shave.

Hard water itself is not a killer but you do have to compensate for it. Any soap can work in it theoretically, you just need to load extra soap. So they should lather properly, you'll just go through them quicker than most.

TOBS Sandlewood, but form the other posts I'm guessing I just need to use more product and work it a bit longer. Thanks for the help. I'm new to wet shaving so this forum is a great resource.

I've jettisoned myself off this issue by buying 5 gallon of distilled water from a pharmaceutical company near my home.

The maid fills a pitcher of water with the water every morning and thats that.

I get better lather quicker and my razor doesn't have all that grime on/under it.
