Hard Rubber (pistol grip) Scales?

Hard rubber at one time was used for scales on razors, although most of them likely have since deteriorated into an unusable state. I have not seen any that were textured like that, though.

I know this is an eight year old thread, but I have to come to the defense of hard rubber for a bit. Hard rubber would make exellant scales, it's similar to horn in many respects. It's also very durable, I have several hard rubber items from the civil war era that look almost new. The hard part would be making it look good, you can't mold it once it's been vulcanized.
