Handsanding straight razors

Hello,
In placing an order on some GD 66, and I am going to "attempt" to regrind with a 3x18 hand belt sander . I'm going thin spine try to hollow the blades out more. As far as hand sanding/ finishing or grit progession, with a round object with sandpaper wrapped around. What would be the best thing to use? Something firm or something with give? What diameter for razors 5/8"-13/16"?
Thanks,
Mike

I’ve used thumbs, cork, garden hose, thick folded leather, woden dowl (too hard).

One trick with hose is to cut two equal lengths - maybe 2 in. Then cut one of them in half lengthwise and use it as a wrap to keep the sandpaper in place for the other piece.

I use a piece of washing machine water supply hose. A lot of people use corks

As Bluesman said not enough flex in cork where as smooth washing machine hose is the first choice, but dont use the ribbed hose has to be smooth.

Just dont ask how I know:001_tt2::001_tt2::001_tt2:

I use air hose or garden hose, usually. Sometimes I use 3D printed sanding jigs. Keep an eye out for various size hose to cut pieces from.
