Hand Thrown Pottery Wet Shaving Bowl

Gents,

I wanted to pass along a great buy I recently came across. I recently discovered a potter on Etsy (online marketplace for handmade goods) named Leslie. Her shop is called The Mud Place.

I liked the finish and overall design of her pottery and requested that she make me a custom shaving bowl with ridges for building lather.

I received it a few weeks ago, and it quickly earned it's rightful spot over all of the other bowls, scuttles, etc. that I have used in the past. It is an amazing handmade product.

She has set up a listing for anyone else interested in purchasing one from her. I can't say enough good things about doing business with Leslie, her customer service, attention to detail, and the quality of her product.

If you are looking for a custom made hand thrown pottery shaving bowl, look no further. Here is a link to her shop with a listing for a similar bowl to mine.

Enjoy and happy holidays!

P.S. I will try to get some pics of my bowl in use posted in the next few days.

Great find by a fellow Texan! I might have to put that on my Christmas list to myself, LOL! I really like that and it is quite unique in its design along with various color choices. Look forward to some more pics, I am sure it will generate her more business from yours truly.

Wow, that's very nice.

Thanks for finding this.

Quick question: How deep is the bowl, vertically ?

It's 3.5" deep with a 5" diameter. For me it's the perfect size for generating and holding a generous amount of lather. This has been a big deal to me in the past as most bowls are too small for my personal taste... I am a head shaver and I can easily generate enough to do 2-3 passes on both the head and face with about a peanut size of high quality cream (3 Ts, CF, AoS etc.)

On another note - the turnaround on these is 3-4 weeks. Not bad considering you are getting a custom hand made work of art, but if you want one in time for Christmas, you'd better order one now.

Edit: Leslie does custom work. I am quite sure she could make you any size, color, etc. that you wish. Truly a custom tailored solution to fit anyone's needs/wants.

Thanks teh. I like that size. I tried others with about a 2" depth and they were too shallow for me.

Adding this to my Christmas wish list.

I took a look at other stuff she makes and it's nice. My daughter in law is a knitter and I like the knit-ball holder as a gift.

That bowl looks really nice, and the price is right. I may have to spring for one one of these days.

That bowl looks VERY nice, well made, and I quite like the glazing color! Has anyone thought of asking if she can also make a scuttle...?

She has toothbrush/razor holders too. And I have photoshop:001_rolle

o_O I had not seen that on her site... looks like I will definitely NEED one to match my bowl.

I had not asked her about that, but I have used many of the popular scuttles out there and after using this bowl, I'm quite happy to set them all aside. It's just got perfect dimensions and perfect feel to it for me. I suppose you could order a coffee warmer to keep it warm or just sit it in a separate sink full of hot water between lathers like I do :)

I see an addition for my den (both the shave mug & razor <er toothbrush> holder) in the near future. Many thanks for the link .

I am happy I subscribed to this thread, a matching bowl and rack would be a nice addition to any shave den aka my bathroom. I am curious about her making a scuttle, that seems like the next logical step and I would really like one with an iside bowl that has ridges like the one she already makes.

Well, the AD had its way with me and I jumped for both the mug and razor (er toothbrush) holder. Good communication with the potter through Etsy's "conversation". Eight days from order to USPS delivery (with confirmation), well packed with bubble wrap and foam peanuts. Actual color was slightly darker than pictures on the Etsy web site but you have to figure on variations in glaze, still very nice, no complaints. This mug is HUGE, Wee Scot owners beware , that's a big boy Omega 10098 featured in one picture. The etched lines in the interior do work in generating gobs of lather. Hope you enjoy my modest photographs.

That looks really nice, I quite like the color of that mug too. I'm getting more and more tempted to ask this person to make a scuttle...

Very nice mug, gonna have to get one. Right now to keep my lather warm I float my mug in the basin that I filled with hot water. I also use the same water for rinsing my razor. Who needs a scuttle?.
