Hand Lotions?

Obviously, winter is upon us yet again. Along with it, dry hands and fingertips in my case.

I work for the USPS, so I have to handle lots of paper. That in itself, combined with cold and dry air really does a number on my hands. As a result, I typically wear close-fitting leather gloves (prefer goatskin) and apply some sort of lotion.

I used to use Caswell-Massey (sp?) but ran out at the end of last winter. It seemed to work O.K., but was a bit expensive if I remember correctly. SWMBO picked up some KMF Fragrance Free Olive & Aloe today at a local health food store.

What are your experiences, if any, with KMF lotions?

Any other suggestions?

Regards,

David

I don't have experience with KMF lotions, although many other guys here use their products and have nothing but good things to say about them. I also have issues with dry hands due to the sanitizers that I use in the butcher shop. I have used Vaseline Men's Hand and Body Lotion for a couple of years, and it is wonderful. It's not all natural, but it works great. It doesn't leave my hands feeling greasy (absorbs very quickly), it promotes healing, it's inexpensive (around $2.99 for a 10 oz. bottle), and it has a nice masculine scent that I actually get compliments on. I wouldn't dare face these cold southern winters without it.

Climb on Creme! I use it for everything - razor burn, nicks, sunburn, any other cuts or scrapes, and works wonders for dry hands after rock climbing (which was what it was designed for). You can probably find it locally, too. Just takes a bit of searching sometimes if you don't have a Whole Earth/Central Markey type place close to you.

I don't work outdoors any more so I don't really need to bother with hand lotion much now, but when I did my ex-SWMBO bought me l'occitane hand cream. It seemed pretty nice.

Corn Husker's Lotion. I don't particularly care for the scent, but it works really well for me. I used to get terrible fingertip cracking during the winter months, but this has eliminated that condition.

If your looking for a super moisturizing hand cream, that absorbes quickly and leaves your hands not sticky, get Aveeno Hand Cream with oatmeal, it has green patterns on the bottle. I notice a big differance within 2 days of using it. Its fairly cheap and you can get it at Costco.

The most intense, heavy moisturizing stuff that I've used would be Bag Balm, or Aquaphor. These can both be found at most drug stores or Wal-Mart, Target, etc. They are both more of a thick salve, so I would suggest buying a cheap pair of cotton gloves and slathering your hands with one of these before bed. For something to use during the day or on a more frequent basis, I like the Hemp Hand Repair stuff from The Body Shop. It has a masculine smell and moisturizes well.

L'Occitane hand cream has blown everything i've ever tried out of the water.

It's phenomenal!

20% shea butter, like I said, any cream with cocoa butter or shea butter will work just fine. Even raw shea butter will suffice. You don't need to break the bank with expensive lotions.

Jack Black makes a decent handcream. Or what I do when working in the field is, slather my hands up with some bag balm and slide them into my leather work gloves, works like a champ!!!:w00t:

My hands crack and bleed every winter. The best lotion I have tried so far is ReNew, by Meleleuca. I will have to try some of the others listed here, though.

I picked up about 6 bottles of Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet scented hand cream off eBay not too long ago for a very good price. It's and excellent cream and the scent is pretty good.

At my work I handle cardboard pretty much all day every day and my hands get so dry they crack open and even the tips of my fingers crack. I recently saw a thread about hand lotion and someone recommended Eucerin, so I picked some up about a week ago and so far its the best I've used. I also deal with some fairly harsh degreasers and by the end of the day my hands still feel pretty good!

Burt's Bees Almond beeswax hand cream is amazing. Anything else with a lot of beeswax would probably also be great. It not only moisturizes, but also very effectively prevents and treats cracking of the skin. I have been using it for a few years in Northern Wisconsin.
