Hand lotion shoot out: Jack Black vs. Billy Jealousy

I can't remember if I posted this here already, but I did a write-up of two hand lotions for my personal blog a couple of weeks back.

I don’t like my hands to be rough, dry, and peeling. I also don’t like to have my hands highly perfumed. That’s where these two fellows come in! Billy Jealousy Golden Gloves Therapeutic Hand Cream and Jack Black Industrial Strength Hand Healer. Both of these lotions are specifically marketed to men who are interested in taking care of themselves, and are part of larger product lines.

Perceptions

This is where things get interesting. For starters, both of these have a light and rather pleasant generic “tropical/slightly fruity” aroma, which lingers for a while, but doesn’t explode off of my hands. This is a good thing.

Jack Black is thicker and can leave your hands feeling like there’s definitely something on them if you put too much on. That being said, it is not greasy, even if it’s on a little thick. It’s almost a little bit waxy. It leaves my hands feeling conditioned and moisturized for several hours after application. Interestingly, if I wash my hands shortly after application, they feel very slippery, possibly due to the macadamia nut and sunflower oils.

Billy Jealousy is somewhat thinner in texture, almost runny. It absorbs very quickly and doesn’t leave much sensation once it absorbs. It is definitely not greasy or waxy. On the other hand (see what I did there?) it does not feel as if it does much in the way of protection. Sure, it moisturizes well, which is good, but I like a little bit of protection, as well.

Conclusions

Both of these are good lotions. One (Jack Black) is labeled cruelty free, the other (Billy Jealousy) has a portion of proceeds going to a charity. If you want one that is more protective, I would recommend the Jack Black. If you want something that is lighter on your skin, go with the Billy Jealousy. For me, the list of botanicals gives the Jack Black just a tiny nudge over the Billy Jealousy. That being said, I use them both and like them equally well.
