Hamberg & Shone Watches

I'd stay away. Its like companies selling straight razors with German sounding names or routed through Germany so the can claim German heritage when they are pakistani garbage. The mvmts are not Swiss or Japanese. They are probably Chinese and the list price is high to make you think they are quality mdse when they are designed to sell for little.

For about the same price check out Christopher Ward watches. They are based in England and the watches are asian made but he uses standard Swiss Mvmts and he sells a quality product.

So, apart from that, what would be wrong?

The worst thing about these "made for the internet watches' (watch forums call them Germasian) is that they are poor quality. Most don't last more than a year and they fall apart quickly. Since they are only sold on the internet, there are no reputable dealers, and there is no one to stand behind the warranties.

Here's a piece of advice for German watches: if it's not made in Glashütte, it's probably not a good buy. Glashütte is like the Geneva of Germany, except the town is very small and has no real international recognition, like Geneva does. In fact, it's rarely on maps.

Well, therer are others, like Sinn in Frankfurt, or UTS near Munich, or even Dornblueth & Sohn.

And to the OP, that company, like many others, smells like Germanasina, this is, chinese movement with the appearance of Germany mancraft in order to inflate prices....but if you like them and get them cheap ( 50-75 US$ or so), there is nothing wrong per se in Chinese movements.

Can't comment on these watches per se, but understand the phenomenon.

If you want a decent watch at a decent price I think the Orient watches offer some of the best price/value (good quality automatics for under $200). Long Island has a great selection and is well known:

As for the Christopher Ward watches, while nice, at over 200 pounds for a quartz and 280 pounds for an automatic, they're not cheap.

I don't know, what's wrong with buying a yugo and driving around in that? If you want a cheap watch that's what you'll get. Cheap in every way.

Actually Christopher Ward makes watches that for their price are very good buys. Everything is relative. To some a $350 watch is very expensive and to someone else any watch less than three grand is inexpensive.
