Hair Tonic vs. Brilliantine

What is the difference between Hair Tonic and Brilliantine?
I use Hair Tonic most every day, either Vitalis, Clubman eau de Portugal, Clubman eau de Quinine, Lucky Tiger, or Jeris. Sometimes I use Top Brass. I have long hair that I keep in a ponytail and it helps to detangle my hair and keep my scalp moisturized. Lately I have been running acroos this brilliantine stuff. Is is just oily hair tonic like Vitalis?

Brilliantine is just another brand of hair tonic like Vitalis etc.

The original Brilliantine was presented at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris by Ed. Pinaud of Clubman and Lilac Vegetal fame.

I do not know if the current incarnation is related in any way to the original.

But the term Brilliantine has been applied to a number of products such as Tres Flores and Jockey Club, and this pomade like substance in a tub. I often find the term applied to products found in the Latino section of gooimng supplies.

The tub stuff is Pomade, different from Hair Tonic.

It's a hair wax, and most types you can mix with a little water to thin it out. Generally the modern Pomades are less scented than the Hair Tonics.
