Hair product

I have medium length straight hair. Just want to style my bangs to the side and away from my forehead. What would be a good product? I want something without shine, stickiness, and minimal to zero smell. Right now I am using American Crew Fibre but the smell is just too strong plus it's kind of hard to apply the product as it is so hard.

Woody's pomade. Water soluable, not over bearing as far as the scent, decent hold and soft to the touch. I have been using it for 5 years now and love it. I spike my bangs and wear my hair short.

Not all pomades do. Many of the water-soluble pomades (Woody's being one) don't leave a greasy-looking shine behind.

+ 1 Don't think of this Pomade anywhere near the same league as Dax, Murray's, etc. Those ones remind me of the time my dad tried to slick back my hair for my Dracula costume when I was a kid...he used Vaseline. :thumbdown. This stuff adds a bit of shine yes, but a natural shine. If you don't want your hair to look "wet", make sure your hair is border line damp.

Schmiere "hart" and "knupplehart" pomades would work for you. Zero shine and pretty decent hold. They are scented though. The hart smells like oranges and the knupplehart smells like German aftershave, whatever that means.

the best pomade, or hair styling product as a fact, that I've ever used is Grants Pomade. It leaves my hair dark without the shine, isn't sticky or greasy, and washes out easy. It seems kinda pricey until you realize its a big can :)

What's the better Grants pomade from the regular or the blue tin? I have thin fine hair...I can't find Schmiere at that site Predict.

Groom and Clean by Suave is water soluble and grease-less. Very little scent but not scentless. Also Pinaud Clubman hair jell is water soluble but has a bit more scent to it, but not strong. Both dry kind of stiff, but if you comb it out after it dries, still holds and looks natural. Both very cheap and widely available.

Layrite is a good water based pomade that has a very matte type of finish. The original version (yellow can) should work well for what you are looking for. It is similar to grant's golden, but IMO grant's has much more shine.

+1 I get mine at Walgreen's.

I use Suave pomade. They have several finish types, so you can pick one that doesn't add shine. The one I use says matte finish. It washes out easy, has a nice hold, and leaves my hair soft to the touch.

The only Grants I have used is the regular, I believe, it's in the silver tin, says Grants golden brand pomade on the front. It does have a slight almond smell when you first apply but it goes away quickly, unless someone actually shoves their nose deep in your hair. I have short but ungodly thick hair and it works great for me, but keep in mind I usually don't apply too much. I don't like my hair to be that stiff and the Grants leaves it very manageable. I don't know if you apply liberal amounts it would keep your hair stiff in gale force winds but I can say the small amount I apply my hair would still get messed up at 70mph with the windows down, but wet the hands and run it through the hair and it's back to where I started.

I made some pomade a few days ago using beeswax and coconut oil. Been using it for two days and I am impressed. It doesn't have a real strong hold like say murrays or dax wave and groom, but it has more hold than groom and clean or brylcream. And it keeps your hair pliable and soft, no crunchy hair here, with moderate shine. As a bonus I smell like coconut all day. For those interested, I used .75 ounce beeswax melted in a makeshift double boiler, added 4 tablespoons (2ounces or 1/4 cup) organic cold pressed coconut oil. Stir till all melted then pour into your preferred storage container and let cool. You can add eo for scent If desired. I think I will add clove next time.

The pomade is ok. I use the paste which is what I think you are taking about. It's inexpensive, holds well, looks natural..good stuff in my book.

I would suggest something like Murray's superlight. It has little smell, and if you don't want a greasy or shiny finish just use very little and your hair looks very healthy and natural and you can style it to a certain extent. Personally I prefer the slick shiny look, so I just use more product. Got my hands on some Murray's Hair-glo recently and I'm diggin' it!

As an update I got Axe pomade because it's cheap and easily available. This will easily let me see if I like pomade on my hair. If I do I will probably try Grants or something eventually. So far the Axe smells nice, is easy to apply, and I like how much control it provides. My hair stays in place. So far so good.

I use "Wired" by Rusk. The tube says its Flexible Styling Cream. I do the same thing to get hair to the side. I use a half and almond sized dot and this 6oz tube has lasted me a year. Level Hold 3. Bought it at Ulta.
