Hair Loss - What's Normal?

I've had a Rooney 1/1 for 1½ - 2 months now. I find it loses about 3 hairs a week. When I lose hairs, it's only ever one hair in a shave. I've contacted Classic Shaving Customer Service and they are happy to swap it out for me, but that would mean 2 weeks without a brush. I would do it if this is abnormal behavior, but if it's normal, it's not really fair to Classic Shaving and it's certainly inconvenient for me.

Should I expect a shed rate such as this or should I return this brush? Thanks for your thoughts.

My Rooney has lost maybe one or two hairs over the last two years. That is very exceptional. After two months there should really be no hair loss, a few hairs a month might be okay. I would take the replacement if they are offering it.

First of all, I never used a brush that was made by any of the famous companies, I make my own using knots I buy from Tony. I have a Silvertip, which is a so-called "over-stuffed" knot, and they are known for loosing hairs during the "break-in" period. It lost a few hairs daily during the first 10 days, I would say a total of maybe 40 or so. But since the end of March it hasn't lost more than maybe two or three total - so this is for me very acceptable. The two other brushes I use in my rotation both have not lost a hair whatsoever - one is a finest from Tony and the other is a pure knot I got from Shavemac. If a brush looses daily hair, I would say that is not normal, but then I don't know how the brush is used, handled etc.

How often are you using this brush? As dense as these brushes are, 3 hairs a week is not a lot when it is a new brush. You might try running a comb through it and then see what happens. Any brush can lose hair when it is new, I'd suggest giving it a chance for a couple more months and see what happens. At this point it doesn't sound like it has really lost very many and just may need a chance to settle down. Rooneys rarely shed but if it does continue to do so and it gets out of control then I'm sure your vendor will take care of it for you.

I use it every day. I've used it 40 times or more. I've combed it out twice. This morning I combed it out and it lost 8 or so more hairs. Since the vendor offered, I think I'll tough it out and send it back. Thanks for all of your responses.
