HA! Makeshift double edge blade hone

So I was looking at those DE blade hones that are made of glass or porcelain and are just a curved piece with a flat base. I wanted one because I have a few razors that take special blades that are pretty hard to find, but have the old dull blades.
I was getting ready to shave tonight and was wishing I could try out one of these razors. Suddenly realized that I already had a nice smooth curved surface made of porcelain. My old spice shaving mug.
It worked. Sort of. It wasn't quite as sharp as I wanted, but I'm going to chalk that up to technique. I'll have to experiment with exactly how much pressure to apply to get just the right edge on it, but I think this is going to work out swimmingly.

Thanks!

By medium, I assume you mean the blade arc should be about halfway between it's normal flat shape and the curve of the mug?

Wasn't there a thread recently that pretty much documented that honing double edge blades doesn't work?

Perhaps, but if we employ our typical "results oriented" scientific method we should be able to pretty much document whatever we want.
