ground off Gillette - why?

Found this Beauty on the Bay. It looks well done but why?

I have one of those too. it came in a lot from eBay. It’s referred to as DEvette. Yours looks I little more civilized than mine, but I had two great shaves with it.

There is a fine detail that should be pointed out. The original idea was to take the teeth off an open comb razor. BUT, the outer teeth are not supposed to be ground off, to protect the user from the corners of the blade. Those corners could dig into the skin quite easily which would be pretty bad.

It’s actually way easier to shave with than a regular Shavette. Shaving verticalily with a DEvette is easier for your muscle memory to retain the angle than the horizontal strokes of a Shavette.

I removed the guards from a Dorco PL-602 with a pair of nail clippers. I did this when I first started DE shaving as a way to force myself to work on the proper angle and amount of pressure. I was desperate, the razor was inexpensive, and it allowed to to get over my fear of DE shaving and build confidence. Mission accomplished!

You Sir are a far braver soul than myself, no way that I put such a device in my face.
its Intuitive. You just shave like you would with a regular DE razor. You can shave exactly the same using all the same passes you’re used to. A regular Shavette is a lot harder to hold your natural angle with a horizontal grip. It’s also not so forgiving as to allowing you your regular directional passes.

Sometimes "restorations" go bad :lol: and the Dremel is a dangerous tool
This guy faced some bent teeth and decided remove all for symmetry

And a R41 Single edge but with a Chinese R41 clone that had moulding issues on one side ( the one removed)

Cheers...

I should get a Focus Shavette in a couple of days. It takes half DE‘s and the blade corners are covered there is also only a tiny bit of blade reveal. So that’s were I will dip my toes in. I will leave the other contraptions for more experienced shavers for the time being.
