Groom Room Open Comb

I just recieved a package in the mail Friday. My long awaited intro to the open comb safety razor.

I want to start by saying that I wasn't really expecting the razor to be this nice. It has a very good weight at just under three ounces, the quality of the plating is flawless, and all the parts fit together very securely.

I was a little afraid to shave at first. Having been told not only by the members of the forum here, but by theGRman himself that this was going to be a very aggressive shave. I took a nice hot shower, and proceeded to load the razor. I was so preoccupied with the impending shave I nearly grabbed my blade by it's edges rather than it's sides. Having narrowly avoiding that disaster I continued with my normal routine.

I was a little hesistant on the first stroke, but by the time I had made it to my jaw line I think I found the perfect angle. As I finished my first pass I felt like this might just be..it as if I had been missing something and had suddenly found it. It seems like I have more control over the angle of the blade with this razor, and I gotta say I like it. My Schick Krona, Gillette Tech, and Shaving Factory TTO are still in the rotation but they might spend some time on the bench this week.

That's a lovely looking razor. Congrats on your new addition. I'm eager to get your impressions after having a handful of shaves with it, too.

The Cadet razor in yet another incarnation! Enjoy this OC razor - it performs very well considering its humble pricing.

Impressions in regards to what exactly?
Impressions in regards to how you feel about it after you've had for a while. I mean that sometimes after spending time with something we notice certain qualities or aspects that weren't apparent straight away.

Just shaved, gotta say there's nothing I noticed as of yet. I would say that if you buy one of these do be mindful of the blade exposure before you tighten the handle. I almost had a bad day.

+1 on the blade exposure and taking care when loading/unloading the blade. I have the Razorock Jaws incarnation of this razor, and I find it a bit more difficult than some of my other razors to screw the head on/off. To avoid this type of mishap, I usually grip the head with a towel when loading or unloading the blade.

I was talking about making sure the blade is square before you tighten it down. That way you don't have one edge sticking way out.
