Grilling with beer

For Saturnalia, my wife got me a pair of cast-iron grill humidifiers. http://www.amazon.com/Charcoal-Companion-CC4071-Moistly-Humidifier/dp/B0045Y0QGA They are very easy to use: put on the grill off the main heat, fill with whatever you wish, and get to it. Top up periodically. Rinse well, do not use metal abrasives (I used baking soda and a sponge).

Saturday was our son's first birthday, and we grilled some chicken breasts. A few people came over, and one of my friends was asking me about them. I explained them to him, how easy they were to use, and this lead to the typical charcoal/gas debate that seems to accompany every barbecue. I wanted to use orange juice in the humidifiers, but he poured his beer in before I could open the carton. I know that alcohol is a terrific tenderizer, and one of my favorite pot-roasts uses Jack Daniels as one of the main ingredients, plus beer gives meat a terrific flavor. Who hasn't heard of splashing beer onto burgers while they're grilling?

The liquid ended up half-beer/half-orange-juice, and were absolutely PHENOMENAL! Even now, two days later, they don't dry out in the microwave. When I served them right off the grill, people went ballistic. Between those and a bacon-mushroom dip, we almost had to roll people out the door. My wife and I put people into a food coma.

If you enjoy grilling, do yourself a favor and pick up those grill humidifiers. You won't regret it!

You had me at "grilling" and sealed it with "beer." Seems like some white wine would also work wonders for chicken and veggies. How easily do they clean up?

I love this from one of the Amazon reviewers:
I bought these for my grill crazy husband for his bday - always tough to buy for. We have been married for 3 Webers, 2 of which had to move 11 times.

They're not difficult to clean. Since I accidentally used orange juice with pulp, I had to do a bit of scrubbing with baking soda. Otherwise, a bit of dish detergent and a soft sponge would do it.
