Grey Flannel Goodness!!

It smells good on its own but blending is more like an experiment. Some work and some don't.

There are Creed Royal blend recipes and I mixed a couple. Green Irish Tweed with Millesime Imperial. That smells like a garden in the rain. Not bad. Bois du Portugal mixed with Millesime Imperial is like a cedar cabin in the rain. A little better. Overall it's a hit or miss and lots of inbetween. Old Spice with Grey Flannel would probably require more OS (because it's only a cologne concentration) than Grey Flannel (EDT). Give it a whirl and see what happens.

I got some Grey Flannel EDT a week ago (2 oz bottle with atomizer). I paid about $12 for it at J.R.'s. The reason I bought it was all the favorable comments here about it.

I sprayed a tiny bit on the back of my right hand. My nose started to close up. I wondered if someone had substituted some chemical disinfectant for the fragrance. It was strong enough to take my breath away. I scrubbed for some time, but only reduced the effect. It was hard to get rid of.

Maybe I got some junk from the bottom of the bottle? I shook the bottle up, and sprayed several times on a poor shrub outside the back door. Killed a spider in the process, too. Later on, went out the back door and was met by the same chemical deodorant smell as before. The topnote was supposed to be lilac. That's a flower, isn't it? I have not known flowers to smell that bad (except for one or two).

This has made me doubt my senses. Many of you on this forum like this scent. I do not. I am surprised that I dislike so thoroughly a scent which has so many experienced people who enjoy it.

My take-away from this experience is that it is quite foolish to buy a scent without sampling it first. I will gladly ship this bottle of Grey Flannel to anyone willing to pay shipping to get it.

I thought of using it to keep fleas off the dogs, but my son objected to pissing off the dogs that much.

...Superb rant...

Holding back your true feelings is unhealthy. Next time, open up about how you really feel.

I had reservations about the stuff, but SWMBO approval has won me over, and I've come to appreciate the way it smells after it settles down.

Another case of Your Sniffer May Vary, no doubt.

I enjoyed the strong green scent of the oakmoss from a tester I tried and then when I bought a bottle it smelled so much better. The violet came out much more. It's either a case of a bad bottle/old bottle sitting in the sun or if you can't smell violet then you probably won't like it ever. The top notes are violet and citrus.

I do plan to sample this elsewhere, to see if my bottle is bad. It is just too weird to have so many people loving this fragrance, and to have such a bad reaction to it. Some say that the edT and edC versions differ as well.

Think it is violet, not lilac; and it is violet leaf, not the flower. I love my Grey Flannel, but I do have to hold my breath for ten minutes after initial application! Once the wait time is over, the fragrance is wonderful!! Green violet leaf and oakmoss!! And some sandalwood hidden deep in the base!

I am one who likes Grey Flannel. I find it potent and am cautious about over-application. It can be a bit harsh for the first fifteen minutes or so but I really enjoy it as it dries down.

Wanting for wisdom
I posed the question a while back. . . "What is the scent of trust?" Grey Flannel was the front runner. Quite frequently the positive comment that was brought forward was from our various "SWMBO"

Quite easily the Eau De Toilette . . . for me . . . will last for a long whole day with a squirt . . A local shop had it . . . less than 30 bucks. (wonderful shop specializing in perfume with a good selection of men's products at Shoppers world in Brampton)

Goes well with Thayer's lemon witch hazel or a Lime Sec aftershave.

It is more powerful than anything else I use. I like it very much.

Hmm.. I just saw this is a sampler set at a local shop with 4 other fragrances.. may have to pick it up and give it a try.

I had never worn it until seeing it recommended here, so even though it is an "old" scent, it was new to me. I picked up a bottle for a good price & it has quickly become one of my day-to-day favorites during the past month or so. It is fairly potent, with good staying power so don't be too liberal in application, but it still gets compliments and seems to offend no one, making it a very good daily scent for me in my office.

Someone may be able to answer this for me while we are on the subject. There is a particular note that I pick up from Grey Flannel and I think that I get it from Polo (green) and Halston Z-14 also (not a bad thing as I like both of those as well, actually) - any ideas what it may be? Each of the three fragrances are distinctly different, but my nose picks out one particular note that is similar among them. It may be oakmoss, as I think that is a commonality between them, but I am by no means a scent hound when it comes to fragrances.
