Grew the goatee and mustache

After nearly a year, I allowed my goatee and mustache to grow. It is still sparse, but it'll thicken up in time. Shaving for the first time this morning, it was amazing how much time was reduced by not shaving the mustache and chin area. It isn't that I don't enjoy my shave, but I found at least an additional 10 minutes saved from my routine.

One thing I noticed is that the facial hair has greatly greyed up since I grew it last and it really ages me. I don't mind that too much, but the clean shaven look is the style at the office plus I have a feeling that I will miss my 18-minute 3-pass shaves.

Now you make your siblings and wife look "old". Unless your wife will now look like your "trophy" wife. That kind of thinking can go either way.

If you look around, you'll find quite a few straight razor guys that have Van Dykes (goatee/mustache combo). It's one area that I'm loathe to shave at all; I occasionally shave it down and keep a clean shaven appearance for a while, but I inevitably go back.

Yep. Noticed that quite a while back. I use straights and when I was first getting the technique down pat, I thought about growing a goat and/or a stash. However, a little practice is all it takes. Don't be afraid to layoff if you make yourself look like The Joker once in a while.

Not shaving your lips and chin would cut any shave down *a lot* but it seems like a surrender to the shave gods in a way. Don't let them defeat you...

I grew a goatee out for about 2 weeks. I had a goatee from 8th grade to age 30. I shaved mine off when I made the switch. It felt odd to have facial hair, and it's now gone again.

I have a full beard. My shaves literally take just a few minutes. (I shave only my neck and checks.)

I'd like to shave it off just so I can have more to shave (and look 20 years younger), but my wife said I do not have her permission to do so...

If it wasn't for the gray hairs I would sport some facial hair. At 40 I'm trying to look 30 not 50. Not that 50 is old, lol.

I'm in the same boat. I'm grey/white except for the mustache area and chin spot. I will turn 40 in July. So, if I want facial hair that isn't grey I either dye it (not for me) or look like an extra from Tombstone.

I understand that completely. I'm only 23, but shaving off my beard puts me back to looking 20 at best. I didn't mind the younger appearance, but my wife tried her absolute best to guilt me into keeping the beard. She was apparently quite the fan. Oh well, maybe I'll grow it back out in the winter :)

My wife loves the facial hair and hates when I shave it off. She said something about "it covers up the ugly" or something like that.:tongue_sm I am just starting to get a few grey hairs on the scalp (95% "pepper" / 5% "salt"), but the beard is 50/50 "salt/pepper". I am 42 so I guess I am due (some are turning grey, some are turning "loose") and I am not going to use "just for men" just yet. I just can't do it (yet).

Fortunately my grey beard did make my late wife look younger by comparison, so she was all for my growing a full beard.

I was in that same boat. I wanted to shave it off in the summer, but wasn't allowed to as long as she was alive. I just started changing my facial hair to suit the season last year.

My wife tends to prefer me with some facial hair, though she's not terribly particular as to what variety (as long as it isn't mutton chops or the like). She says that when I shave clean, I look like I'm 16 again and I look like an entirely different man.

In years past I grew a full beard in anticipation of duck season each year. At the end on the season, in March, I went back to being clean shaven. Ten years ago, at the age of 50, I went to a Van Dyke (mustache and goatee) instead of being clean shaven. At the time it was black but over the last 10 years it has turned completely grey. My hair has remain black without any grey at all. I keep it trimmed close and have a short business type haircut.

My response to SWMBO, upon to her commit I should dye the grey, was it all has to do with genes and I refuse to debase my heritage with Grecian Formula for Men. It has stopped the odd commit about dying the grey and she is enjoying trying to figure out what my heritage is on ancestry.com. Misdirection can be a powerful tool in the gentleman's toolkit.

Since my return to DE shaving about seven years ago I have refrained from growing a bread in the winter and just wear a insulated face mask when hunting in bad weather.
