Great Grandfather's Gillette

So tonight at dinner my mom gave me her grandfather's Gillette. She knows I'm into shaving and decided it was time to pass it along. I really only use straights, but with the history I figured I may have to use this from time to time. I believe it is a Gillette Single Ring Travel set. Unfortunately I do not have the brush. It looks like the serial number is D3 06301 and on the end of the handle is Pat Nov 15, 04. It seems to be in pretty decent shape. His name was Bernard, hence the engraved B. Any other information you may have would be much appreciated. Thanks! $20170201_202232.jpg

I need to get out my loupe and check that patent date. If it really is Nov 15, that is my birthday. Granted 80 years before I was born.

Awesome. I've tried to track down my dad's and grandpa's razors but no luck. I think I'd be overwhelmed if that happened.

I recently got my grandfather's old shaving gear...mugs, worn out brushes that aren't usable now, 2 old soap pucks, a Star tech, 2 SS, and a FatBoy, and some other odds and ends. Every time I use one of the razors I think of him.

Thanks for all of the replies. Unfortunately I never got to meet him. He passed before I was born. It is still awesome to have something from the family though. Can anyone help me date and identify this razor? Seems to be 1916 be the number on it.
