Great Deal on Merkur HD 34c Safety Razor

Hi, Folks -

Even though I'm still a loyal Rolls Razor fan, I have decided to get a good DE razor for those days when I can't take the time to strop, etc. Consequently, I have researched B&B for the best all-around DE razor, and the resounding answer seems to be the Merker HD 34c.

Next, I went on google and found the Merkur HD for $31.50 and free shipping! Here's the link:

Apparently, they are just beginning to carry Merkur razors (and other Merkur shaving products), so the prices are low and the shipping is bound to please.

I placed my order immediately. I'll let you know how things went as soon as the razor is delivered.

Cheers,
Phil

Aaaahhh the 34C. For me there is no other razor that shaves as well as this beauty. Close, comfortable, smooth. Load an Astra, Treet, Blue Bird or Red Personna and I'm in shaving heaven. Enjoy.

I wondered what this wood ? is, or is it just a "peachy" shaver ?

Omega Peachy Silver Tip Badger Hair Shaving Brush - #617

Hi, Hex -

I just had a look at the "Omega Peachy Brush". The write-up says the brush is made in Italy, so it's likely they used olive wood for the base. Also, the figuring of the wood in the image is consistent with olive wood.

Anyway, The Indian Food Store did send my Merkur HD, via Priority Mail w/tracking number, free of charge - as advertised. I should receive it next week (it's a long way to Guam). :001_smile

I'll update the forum after the razor is delivered.

Cheers,
Phil

Yes, I noticed that too... . However, they are advertising the Merkur 34c @31.50 w/free shipping. Apparently, their stock of Merkur products is a new sales line for them. So, perhaps they are doing that as a "special introductory offering"?

Cheers,
Phil

Thank you for sharing this website! Looking through their bath soaps and all right now. The name Dettol brings back fond memories of visiting my grandparents in India when I was 10.

... And yes, $31.50, free shipping, is a killer deal for a 34C.

Hi again, Folks -

I just wanted to tell you that my Merkur HD 34C arrived in perfect shape this past Monday (23 Aug). And a bonus too! Inside the box was a complimentary Merkur Super Blade (platinum coated).

So, The Indian Food Store kept their end of the bargain 100%. All I paid was the advertised $31.50 for the razor, and they sent it free of charge by USPS Priority Mail.

Of course, I could barely wait until Tuesday morning to take the new razor for a spin. It's as smooth as can be...definitely a very classy ride! So, thanks to all of you for posting recommendations about the Merkur HD.

Then on Wednesday this week, I "awakened" and used a totally cherry 1952 Rolls Razor (Viscount Model). I bought it on ebay for less than $10, several years ago. It arrived with a special greetings card from Rolls Razor Ltd, printed "in honor of the coronation of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II".

Having just used my new Merkur the previous day, I was curious how the "new" Viscount would compare. All I did was strop the blade, as usual, just before shaving. And guess what? That 58-year-old blade shaved me just as well as the Merkur! In fact, I'd say both experiences were identical in "feel" and quality.

However, it's only a question of time before I'll need to hone and strop the Viscount's blade. What shaves I get thereafter will rely completely on my ability to maintain that edge. - It's definitely work, but it's a labor of love as well.

The way I see it, the Merkur will be my week-day companion, while the Viscount will have the weekend duty.

Cheers,
Phil
