I remember seeing Chad & Jeremy interviewed by Mike Douglas or Merv Griffin on TV sometime around 1966, and they said that when Paul Simon was living in England in 1964, just before Simon & Garfunkel became big, he gave them this song to record. They held off recording it for nearly 3 years, and of course by that time it had become a huge hit for Simon & Garfunkel. Still, a great version.
