What's new

Great antique store find today.

I have read several posts on here about guys finding great deals on Super Speeds at antique stores for only $2.50 and up. To be honest, I kind of smiled and said, "Yeah, right." to myself. Well, I guess it's true, because today I picked up a Z-3 SS for only $5. Of course I didn't know what I had until I got home and cleaned some of the crud off. You couldn't even see the date code. I just knew I had found a '50's SS to rescue. I also picked up a B-1 SS for a few dollars more. Wish I had a digital camera to post before and after pics, but alas I am lacking in some of the technological areas of life. Somehow I still make it through, though. Now I gotta start the cleanup, and hopefully I'll try out the Z-3 tonight with an Astra Superior Platinum blade. Haven't tried those yet.

Congrats on a nice score!

I know I always feel great when I make a good discovery, and particularly when they clean up well!

Happy Shaves!

Well, I didn't have time to use the Z-3 SS last night, but tried it out this morning with an Astra Superior Platinum blade. Only my 3rd DE shave, and the 1st with zero irritation and zero nicks! Don't know if it was the blade, or the fact that I didn't go ATG on my neck this time, but I did 2 full passes WTG, with 1 pass ATG in between, skipping my neck on the ATG pass. Think the Astras might end up being my go to blade, but I've only used them and the red personnas so far. Picked up some Top Care blades at the grocery store the other day, and looks like they're manufactured by the same company as the Personnas. Only $1.99 for a 10 pack in a dispenser. Anyone tried these before?

I also cleaned up the B-1 SS I picked up yesterday. Finally got all the crud off of the bottom side of the blade tray where the handle attaches, and it has got HEAVY brassing. Oh, well, took a shot in the dark. I'm sure it will be a spectacular shaver anyway. The head is nice and clean. Anyone know how to get all the rust off the inside of the blade tray and the inside of the butterfly doors? I considered CLR, but didn't know if that would strip the nickel finish off or not. Been scrubbing with a soft bristle brush, and got some off, but the rest is pretty stubborn.
