Grandpa's SR set

Hey everyone! I'm actually just a new DE recruit, mainly because I'm scared of a straight razor but I do eventually plan to use these and haven't been able to find much about them? It was a set given to him by my grandmother and passed on down to me from my mother. I'm looking to clean them up as a couple of them have a small bit of rust, any tips or recommendations so that I don't ruin them? Here's a couple shots of them, would love any information on them! Thanks!

@smalltank - I would like to have one that I could eventually use, definitely not any time soon and that may change as time goes on. I want to keep them as original as possible so my first step would be to make sure the rust doesn't cause problems, cleaning them with as little of an impact on them as possible. If I ever man up and decide to try SR shaving, I would look further into getting one shave ready.

@life2short1971 - Thank you very much for the product reco, I'll definitely look into the Maas polish!

I've seen 7-day sets, but haven't seen a Tue. Thur. Sat. set before.. that's neat! And how cool that these are from your grandfather.. you gotta shave with 'em!

About 6 months ago, I figured there'd be no way I'd ever shave with a straight.. then I bought an R41, then a Micromatic OC, then finally decided to buy a straight. I'm taking it slow, and I'm having a blast... once you shave the first inch of beard, it all makes sense. It's way scarier thinking about it than actually doing it.. I'm 11 shaves in, and haven't nicked myself yet. Anyway, I'm not trying to be all pushy about it, but those are super cool razors, and you can do it!

Thanks everyone! I am super excited to have been the one that this was passed onto, would love to just man up and start using them but I'll get there :001_tt2:

Its not a big deal to use them if you already are reasonably deft with a DE. My guess is that the two of you, we'll... the four of you actually, are destined to meet in your shaveden across a well lathered brush eventually. It's inevitable.

I LOVE family stuff, and that's a great set. As Scott mentioned, get some Mass, or some Blue Magic, metal polish (you can get it at your local Auto Parts Store).
They look to be in pretty good shape, so I think you could clean them up nicely.
When you get ready to try one, there are several members, here, that will hone it and make it shave ready just for the cost of postage (this is such a great forum!).
I too, am fairly new to straight shaving. Started Nov. of last year. Before I started, shaving was just another chore for me, you know, ****, shower, shave... I used an electric, or those disposalble Bics.
Now that I am using straights, I find I actually look forward to shaving. I switched from shaving in the morn. to shaving at night, so that I can take my time, and enjoy.
That's a great that heirloom set!
regards,
Bil

Those are extremely cool. I would edge into them slowly--get another razor to start with, to get your skills up, and then if you stick with it, switch over to those. The reason is that in the first few months you are more likely to do damaging things like have one slip out of your untrained fingers, drop one on the floor and break (they're fragile), or knock the faucet with the edge, and you don't want that learning experience on those.

You are the King of Fortunate today!
