What's new

Got used to using a Red Tip, now my Tech doesn't seem too good.

Been using a Gillette Red Tip that I got at a flea market for several months with Wilk's and Derby blades. Tonight, I switched back to my Tech with a Wilk's blade, and it just didn't seem right. Differance in weight and aggressiveness? Used to use the combo all the time and it seemed great, now not so much.

You just got used to a more aggressive razor.

I once found out that EJ 89, SS flare tip and Schick Krona were excellent razors.

Now I am used to Muhle R41, Merkur Futur, Merkur Slant and SS red tip, everytime I use razors above can't get satisfaction.

Note that I am only 4 months in wet shaving and have a thin beard.

Yeah, the Red Tip is a very aggressive shaver. Of the flares, they go blue, silver, red. It's kinda like going from a sports car back to a compact. Sorry.

Yes it Happens, I used to love EJ89 "Still Do" But after Using the R41 Which was to aggressive for me but did Tone it down by using Astra SP Blade and Cold Water Shaves, I for some Reason get better shaves from more aggressive Razors, Like the Titan H1 and R1 from Above the Tie. And Red Tip Feel like an EJ89 Razor to me now :eek:/

Also for some reason i get cut and nicks from an less aggressive Razor after using the Titan H1 or R1 :eek:/ Guess its Because i have to put more Pressure to try and get same results as the Titan H1 as to a Red Tip, but They are still fine shavers...

There still is a place for the tech. I go to a mild shaver for those days where I've had less than a stellar shave the day before. So keep it it's useful to have around.

+1. That Red Tip is the finest Gillette ever made IMO, but it will bite eventually.

Try the Tech with a "sharper" blade. Gillette 7 O'Clock black, Polsilver SI, Personna Med Prep, or even a Feather. Tech's are about as mild as it gets, but they do well with the right blade.

Also you can add a shim on top of the sharper blade. I get GREAT shaves in my shimmed Tech using the Gillette Blacks, and Feathers. Sharp blades work great in the Tech.
