Got these on the bay and a few questions.

For the amber colored one, it is Bakelite, with a 17mm knot and a loft of 46mm. The knot is in pretty good shape so I am thinking of leaving it as it is, clean it up, and use it as a face scrubber.

Would I use the same cleaning procedure as a break-in for a new brush ?

The other brush is pewter and has a 18mm knot and it needs a new knot.
I am thinking a TGN, finest, 2 band would work well, though I have never worked with metal before.

What say you ?

I think a TGN Finest and a nice polish would look amazing. I'm a big fan of black and pewter/silver with a two band, they complement each other very well.

Gratz on the pewter, I was eyeing that one but decided to pass on it. Glad it went to a B&Ber!

Both are nice. I would just wash out the bakelite one and lather it up...I bet you will be restoring it soon. I have found vintage badger to be pretty floppy even when it looks decent.

Finest is a great choice...my favorite knots so far.

I'd be interested to see if what Schwert says is true for that brush. It certainly has been for mine. I've a vintage badger that flops like crazy. I'll probably reknot it after the new year.

How heavy is the pewter? Is it hollow?

Hex, firstly I would like to say they are nice acquisitions, congrats. But I was watching that red "catalin" Century auction and I could not understand your bidding technique. IMHO you could buy easily that one for $25 and you should put your max bid was $50. On the other hand it deserves a black pure badger knot.
