Got my first tabacco, has anyone tried it?

Hi all,

I'm awaiting my first pipe and am about to trial my first ever tabacco (as soon as the pipe arrives). I've purchased what the pack describes as "Pipeman's Mixture Pipe Tabacco".

Has anyone tried this? What do you think it will be like for a first timer? It smells VERY rich, chocolate, brandy, etc. I hope it's not too strong I guess...

Wish my luck, I'll let you know how I go.

Rob

I'm not familiar with the name, what the Brand Name? Is it a drugstore brand?

Any idea what's in it based on the label?

According to your short description of brandy and chocolate smells, I'm going to assume it's an aromatic, so it should be a fine smoke for a first timer.

I have never heard of it either, could you snap a pic of it for us, hopefully it will help others identify it.

OK it says it's made in Denmark.
The packet says it's Pipman's Mixture but the website of the distributor says:

English Mixture Blend 20:
This unique blend is composed of choice, mature Virginia tobacco with the pleasant taste of natural sweetness, toasted Black Cavendish and a touch of Latakia. The broad cut ensures a slow burning mixture with a cool pleasant taste of natural sweet Virginia and slightly spiced Latakia.
Our Opinion: Light to medium, burns well in a pipe not to small.

So I'd guess that's it (there's no other mixture named on their site).

The packet, oh man, you're not from Australia are you? Our anti smoking laws are intense, the packet can be seen on this thread: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...s-to-hide-insane-images-due-to-Australian-law
Aus law doesn't allow branding, colours, images etc and all tobacco has to have epic death or near death images on them (tumors, cancers, deathly people, etc). So there's no luck in identification from packaging.

Thanks for the feedback though, muchly appreciated, just awaiting my pipe! My office smells of rich, dark chocolately berry tobacco... mmmmmmm :)

The Tobacco giants are trying to sue the Australian Gov't and haven't been successful as yet. The rest of the world are watching though and it's reported that if Australia can hold off against the money behind those boys that many countries will be following suit. Amazing times huh...

It's interesting isn't it. I think it really helps reduce new people to smoking. I had to pull my tobacco from its pouch, stick it in a jar for now and throw the packaging. It's just foul. I SUSPECT it will provide an increase in pouch sales though.

I was chatting to someone in the know and it turns out MANY countries are watching what happens and want to adopt similar laws. This includes Canada, India, Norway, France, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kindom, etc etc.

Full on huh.

Shock value...marketing doesn't have to necessarily be good, it just has to stick with you.

mmm I'm wondering also. Pipe still not here. Am super keen to try that Frog Morton selection though, wish my local had it. Will have to purchase online I think.

I'm lighting my pipe as I read these.

ahhh politics. The UK just announced they will not yet be introducing Australian "plain packaging" laws as there is no evidence it's worked in reducing smoking uptake rates. This was initially brought on with obvious freedom advocate congratulations. It then was uncovered that the UK advisor on this topic owns a company that's paid for by the big tobacco companies. Hence, it's pretty clear that money is influencing the decisions of major worldwide governments. etc. :)

Again, the times we live in huh :)

I was reading that if you smoke a pipe and don't inhale much like you would with a cigarette it only increases health risks by 10%, it might be BS but that's a small percentage, I think work related stress increases my health risks more than that

There are reports and studies that claim all sorts of things, good and bad, so it's hard to really know for certain, as each side does their best to "spin" the results. I believe the original Surgeon General's report on smoking even claimed that pipesmokers, on average, lived three years LONGER than nonsmokers.

+500 on that stress is a big killer

Just to follow up on this, I really love the tobacco mentioned at the start of the thread.

When I get the draw right (slow and gentle pull) light, fresh, caramel vanilla type flavors spring into my mouth. Very much alive with a high note in there.

When I burn it hot, it tastes a little like cigarettes smell like. That's my fault, not the tobacco.

All in all, it's mild with a pleasant flavor. I'm not skilled enough yet to be more descriptive sorry.

I saw a similar report about smoking cigars. I think it boils down to a couple of facts about smoking pipescigars vs cigarettes: Smoking a pipe or cigar is a time commitment. As opposed to running outside for a 2 minute cigarette break. Putting life's worries aside for 30 minutes or an hour forces you to relax and breaks the stress cycle which modern life seems to impose all too often. Also pipe/cigar smokers tend to smoke a few times a week -- not a dozen or more times a day like a cigarette smoker. So the small increase in carcinogens is overwhelmed by the much larger decrease in stress level.

Amen to that! Stress.... shudder.... Where's my pipe? Need to unwind :)

I know I am very relaxed after having a bowl.
