Got any last minute tips for a traveler?

Specifically, someone who's going to another country for four months?

EDIT: Specifically, Grenada.

Have fun, be aware of your surroundings, make sure you buddy up to do any wandering around. Have fun.

Whenever I'm traveling to a place/country I haven't been, I find it immensely interesting to, on the trip there (which is usually pretty boring, at least in part) write a short description of what I expect things will be like (for example, on my trip to Chile I was expecting some grass-hut-esque landscapes). On the trip back, pull it out and you'll get a kick out of your 'old, ignorant' self.

It's at least better than reading skymall. Have fun!

Is this a pleasure trip or business trip? Is it offered through an organized group? Are you staying with any one that you know?

I unfortunately have never been and don't know much about Grenada but what I can tell you about my own travelling experiences is that you should not be afraid to jump right in to the local culture. Take time to enjoy what makes your destination different than any other destination. Me and a buddy took a month long tour of Western Europe after college. We of course saw the major tourist attractions that each place had to offer(How can you pass up going to the top of the Eiffel Tower when you are in Paris, right?) We also took time to enjoy local cafes, sit along the Seine River and venture through the small unique neighborhoods. Some of this stuff was the most memorable parts of the trip.
Treat the locals with respect for their cultures and don't be afraid to leave you comfort zone. Be courteous and try to learn at least a few phrases in the native language.
Exercise caution while you are travelling. While most people are very nice but you will always find others that prey on tourists. Try not to carry around excess flashy items that attract attention. Keep vital items in a place that you will notice them. Travelers' Cheques are very handy to have! I got pick-pocketed in Rome and the only reason I was not out $500 was because I wasn't carrying any cash, just Travelers' Cheques. I now generally keep my wallet in an inside jacket pocket, front pants pocket or at least in a back pocket with a button, regardless of where I am.
Like I said, I don't have experience in Grenada but these tips will help to have a pleasurable trip in just about any location. Chances are if you have traveled before then you may have heard most of this info, but hopefully it will be useful to someone reading it.

Always stay with a buddy, make sure somebody knows where you are when you go out, keep some money in your shoe, and memorize your emergency phone number.
