Rest in Peace
Very nice, Ron & welcome to B&B! I have an identical set except mine is a pristine Long Comb that I have not used yet. You will love the Short Comb; my experience with it has been outstanding. Best Regards. Mike

Congrats! I have one just like that one, plus a Red and Black New Deluxe set as well and both are great performers.

I knew you were going to like that Ron, as soon as I saw the pics. I am so glad you picked it up. The razor looks to be in great shape and so does the case. Just a soak in Scrubbing Bubbles or even just a bit of scrubbing with dish soap and a soft toothbrush will be more than enough to get it shave ready.

I hope you like the way it shaves, I think you will. Just go easy with a shallow angle and you will get the hang of it really quickly. It will be more aggressive than that 60's Super Speed, but in a good way. I can't wait to hear how your first shave goes. So far, the NEW short comb is the mildest of all the NEW's I've tried. The Goodwill is a close second.

Well, it does have teeth, but when push comes to shove it's really just a Chihuahua. Much more bark than bite. I should know, I have 3 of those too.

OK got this razor cleaned up and used it tonight.

Astra
VDH brush
VDH soap
This was a pretty good shave. I still need to work on technique. But I think it was better than the SS.

Keep at it, Ron. I use Astra SPs a lot in my short comb NEWs; you made a good choice. Enjoy your shaves. It definitely shaves closer than my SS.

The Astra is very smooth and very forgiving if your technique or angle isn't perfect. More than sharp enough, but really smooth. I will always have 100 of these around. The GSB's are on a different sharpness level, but as you DE shave more and more you may go back to them. It took me some time, but ultimately I found them to be, for me, the ultimate in sharp and smooth. Astra on steroids so to speak.

However, they aren't for everyone and they might not be for you. What is important is you've found a blade that works for you right now. When I first started I found that and stuck with it for almost 2 years straight. It sure helped my technique and really allowed me to understand the differences when I did start trying other blades.

Just stick with your blade and keep going easy with the NEW. In a few weeks I may be in a position to send you a NEW SC for you to try for a week or two. See if you like it better or the LC. I'll keep you posted.

Hey Jeff, nice sample of blades you sent. I have lost the SS to my wife. She likes it pretty good. I told her it would take some practice. I told her I would try to find one for her that had a longer handle but she likes that one. Found a user grade tech dirt cheap at the flea market. Wish it was a fat tech. My granddaughter wanted to know why they call it ''flea market''. She thought we were going to get someting for the dog. I almost hate to use the New do not want to get it messed up. So later I may look at a nickle plated SC or LC for a every day use.

Jeff you have been a great help and a great friend on B&B

Flea market. Something for the dog. Gosh I love kids. That's classic funny stuff. I hope to have a granddaugher (and a grandson) someday. I'm not past the point of thinking of my daughter as 6 years old running down the driveway at the end of the day yelling "daddy" with her arms wide open; even though she is 22 now. All things with time I guess.

Anyhow, I don't think you have to worry about messing up that new. It has likely already outlived it's first owner, maybe it's 2nd. It will outlive both you and I as well. Enjoy it, use it, learn to love it. Worst case scenario you need to send it off to get replated one day because of a few scratches. $40 and 4 weeks and it's brand new again.

Glad you like the blades and glad your wife likes the Super Speed. For a longer handle the Lady Gillette has the same head as the Super Speed but a nice long handle. My wife loves hers.

Keep the whole family shaving Ron.
