What's new

Google Nexus 7

Still undecided about the size, I need to hold one in person before I make my mind up.
The specs and the price can't be beat on paper.
The size is perfect I was afraid it would be a bit small cause being 6'4 I have big hands but it was just right, perfect for games too. I mean any bigger like an iPad an its too clunky and any smaller just buy an iPod touch. So personally it's perfect IMO, tons of apps cause its android, and its the fastest tablet I've used, also it's made by ASUS which makes the most reliable computer parts an laptops, go to a computer forum they will recommend anything ASUS

They will most likely be coming out with a 8.9 inch one to compete with the 8.9 inch Kindle Fire in the near future. I would buy that in a second. 7 inches is slightly too small as it is only 1 inch larger than my Kindle Touch e reader, but 10.1 inches is a bit to big for my hands.

I went through 4 of them. They all had their screen separating from the body. I gave up on Asus.

Could have been a bad run. This can happen to any manufacturer.

I've looked at them online, but I'm sold on the Kindle Fire. I have one and am upgrading to the KF HD in 32 gigabytes. But if you want a Nexus get one, my pastor at church bought one and likes it.

I have an iPad, and a coworker has a Nexus 7. I like both. I know, heresy- burn me at the stake.

I'm right back where I started!

You really just have to try it for yourself. It also depends on what you are using it for...like what types of apps, if it is going to be mainly for internet browsing, or you will be doing word processing stuff on it as well. If you are going to be taking it everywhere, a 7 inch one obviously has its benefits. If it is just going to stay on your desk, a 10.1 might be better to have.

Like I said, I hope a Nexus 8.9 is in the works. A nice in between for me.

It fits in my back pocket and is still very functional. I don't have an issue with the size, but I do no word processing on it.

I've got one, I love the size.

7" is just right, and the 10 from the iPad seemed to big to me. A co-worker has the Kindle Fire and if you are tied into getting most of your content from Amazon the Fire is a good bet. If you get content from other places then go with the Nexus, just so you know, the Fire HD's processor is not as strong as the one in the Nexus. I've got the 8Gb version and haven't run into any storage issues, and haven't had any problems with it.

I've been on the fence about buying one since it came out. I love the fact that you get stock Jellybean and a Tegra 3 processor for such a cheap price. I've played around with one at my local Microcenter, but the only thing keeping me back is that fact is that it only comes in 8gb or 16 gb of memory with no sd card slot.

I have read rumors on engadget and the verge that a 32gb model is in the pipeline. If that is the case I may pull the trigger on that one.

The only things I didn't like about buying one was the huge premium for the 16gb over the 8gb and the $15 shipping.

...but, I got the $25 Google Play gift certificate and a $10 credit through Google wallet (which you cannot get anymore).

So, the 16gb cost me about $265 up front.

I don't really see myself using very much space with the internal storage. I do wish it had a SD card slot. I hate plugging things into my PC directly.

I haven't rooted it or tried any custom ROMs. It's pretty snappy and buttery. I get annoyed by websites trying to open in mobile browser mode. I have to force desktop version sometimes. I see way to set this as default in Chrome that came installed.

I used part of my Google Play cash to buy the Honey Badger game. It was amusing for a few days, but then got annoying and boring.

I use it mostly for web browsing, email, and eBay browsing.

It connects to the 5 GHz antenna of my dual band router and is super fast. I have no problems streaming Netflix or anything from my Dropbox.

It is true it will fit in your back pocket. I get worried if I carry it that way I might sit on it though.

The GPS is pretty good too. While it's connectivity is Wi Fi only, the GPS functions without Wi Fi.

I bought a little tablet stand at a drugstore for $7 and it's great for watching movies. I'm 6' 4" and can palm a basketball no problem- and this tablet just feels right in my hands. I can hold it comfortably in one hand and I don't feel it's too heavy or that the screen is too tiny. I do feel like my Galaxy SII is tiny now though.

Tablet Talk is a great app for texting over Wi Fi and, even though I haven't tried it, I think it will let you make phone calls via bluetooth. All of this through your cell phone mind you.

I tried Skype, but I don't know many people who use it.

To get some good apps without rooting it, you can download Amazon's app store.

I use Space Galaxy 3D as my wallpaper. It's a live wallpaper, but hardly uses any resources.

I keep telling myself I'm going to fool around with it more to find more things that I can do with it.

Aside from the Roku and WD Remote apps, I pretty much just use it for web browsing and reading emails. I only charge it every other day or every third day. I don't carry it around though and it stays at home. So I maybe use it for an hour or so off and on in the evenings. I only open my laptop now to do things for the office or add things to my Dropbox.

The thing I enjoy most about it is that it's stock Jellybean. No junk I can't delete or turn off, no update notifications for apps I don't want, etc..

I think I waited just long enough to get one to miss the batches that had screen issues and pixel quirks. Mine has been one of the best purchases I made this year. I can't really think of anything I want it to do as a tablet that it won't do.

The rubberized back shell is cool and tactile. You can lay it on a smooth surface and not worry it will slip off and meet the floor.

I don't understand the front camera. I'd rather have a rear camera with a flash for my beloved flashlight and barcode reader apps I use on my SII. I realized I use that flashlight app a lot.

Google Earth is awesome on the Nexus 7 too.

Until something significantly cooler comes out, I'm feeling like I got a big bang for my bucks with this tablet.

Well I think this new surface tablet by Microsoft is something very interesting. Rumors have been flying around since Microsoft announced it that it may be a s low as $300.00. But MS has been tight lipped on specs or storage on a tablet possibly that cheap.

Guess we'll have to wait until the 26th when it's released.

The iPad screen is great when sitting in the living room surfing. I can see how, in some instances, a smaller size may be nice.
