Good Low to Mid range Silvertip brushes?

Well, let's try this again. A couple of days ago I inquired about information on a new brush for my brother, but since then he has gotten his hands on a few brushes and has changed his requirements.

He is looking for
a longer handle...he does not like faux ivory
Silvertip Badger
fan shaped
Smaller knot, approximately 18-22mm

He decided that what he wants at the moment is an extremely soft brush, with enough Length to either mug or face lather. Right now the only brush he has a tweezerman, so I think he is a little intimidated by the larger brushes. This is probably a good thing, because less hair will make it be easier to stay in his price range right? He is looking to pay $50-80, but I may be able to get him to 100 if someone knows of something that is super soft with a long handle, especially if the handle is fancy looking. He is looking at some WSP brushes, but is skeptical about them lol.

Anyways, thank you again for your time. This should be the last time I inquire about this brush purchase.

Whipped Dog's offering would be a good choice. Vintage Blades 2 band is also a great choice. It's not silvertip, but it's an amazingly soft brush with great tips and not a ton of backbone.

Have you considered Muhle's silvertip synthetic (version 2)? More affordable ordering from Connaught/overseas, a really great brush

Vintage Blades 20mm would be a good choice, it performs similarly to the Tweezerman but is much softer and higher quality, and comes in black.

The only thing about the WD brush that doesn't meet his requirements is the shape; the WD is a bulb shape.

I wouldn't let that out him off one, though. They are exceptionally soft brushes, and the price is extremely reasonable. If he tries it and really prefers a fan, he'll be able to sell it easily.

Frank Shaving has a really nice handle he might like (Catalog #29EB). They can stuff it with whichever badger you prefer. Contact Ian Tang on the Bay. He is quite helpful.

+2 on the Whipped Dog, and take time looking at all the handles, there are some that aren't bulb shaped, I like the one shaped more like a column.

+1 on the Whipped Dog recommendation. Great brushes at great prices and a good guy to deal with.
Whipped Dog silvertip. Very hard to beat and great customer service.

Well Last night we spent some time trying to wade through all of the stuff out there, but it's hard to know how well of a knot the whipped dog makes. He DOES like the customization, but is a little uncertain about how well of a knot there is. A few people have suggested a closer look so I'll let him know. Thanks! As for the Vintage blades 2-band I believe he is a bit stand offish because he wants a smooth shave, and feels there will be too much scritch...or not as smooth of an experience.

Great advice on where to buy it, we appreciate it! However we have too little information to make an informed decision on synthetic. I've never tried one myself, but have heard the Muehle have learned to excel at making silvertip fiber.

Maybe with these recommendations we'll be able to get him into a VB 2-band. Then I can see how it feels without the risk ;)
I just stumbled onto this....may be worth looking into. Anything Jarrod would put up for sale has always been high quality and fairly priced

This is another one that I thought he would have good luck with when we were looking stuff up last night. TSS has been great for the things that I've purchased, and Jarrod seems to know what is worth owning :)

Thanks for all of your help, I really appreciate it...I'll give him the overwhelming support for WD silvertip, as well as the less than overwhelming support for the Vintage blades brush :) If anyone else has something they may like to add I do not THINK he will be making any rash decisions and buying right away. I could be wrong though.

If he can stretch the extra cost, these seem to fit the bill: Rooney 3/1 Super Silvertip in Imitation Tortoise Shell

I prefer the old font, but these are crazy soft.

Don't worry about the WD quality. He does provide a good knot, and if you have problems, Larry will make it right. My favorite brush is a 22mm silvertip set at 48 or 49mm loft. Shoot him an e-mail, and see what he says. The biggest problem right now is that he's temporarily out of a lot of his silvertips.

Agree with this. I have a 24mm, with the standard loft, and I love it. It is very soft, and lather just seems to explode off the brush. He won't be disappointed.

All said and done i think he's going to try and get a whipped dog, Though i'm trying to convince him to expand his spending and pick up a rooney. He is convinced though that he'll pick up a WD brush...if he can find a handle he likes at least. Thanks everyone for their help!
