Good disposable razors if you need to shave in a rush and don't have your DE

I'm on a lifelong mission to attempt to shave with as many different razors and different types of razors as possible, Straight, DE, SE, disposables, cartridges and the list goes on. When I first started out shaving I use to buy the cheap razors that came 10-12 in a pack, I've worked my way from off brand razors to Schick hydro's, and my next step in the DE razor. Some razors shaved better then others. To make a long story short, if your ever somewhere like away from home and couldn't bring your DE on the plane and didn't have your Hydro, Fusion, Mach 3, Sensor, M5 etc stick with you, these 2 disposable packs are good razors. You can get 2 solid shaves out of them sometimes 3 with multiple passes.

The Gillette Custom Plus 3

And the Gillette Sensor 3

Now I'm not saying that their the best razors in the world, I'm just saying if you have to run to the store and want to make a quick pick up, they can do the job.

I'm with you on the Custom Plus but I prefer the two blade version. When the price of cartridges finally went higher than I was willing to pay it's what I used during my transtional phase between my Sensor Excel days and until I discovered DE shaving .

If I ever travel somewhere where I can't take a DE along, I would take my trusty Trac II instead. Gives great shaves, and the blades can be had for very little money. :thumbup1:

You assume we have Hydro, Fusion, Mach, Sensor, or M5s. I certainly don't.

BIC Sensitive skin single blade is the best razor and probably not only among disposables. If you try some, you will probably forget your DEs. :) I used them for decades and a 12 pack would last almost a year. I shave once every three-four days. DFS or BBS every time. $2.57 for a 12 pack at Walmart:

Your right. I use these razors every day to trim under my nose, they do a good job and no cuts like I get once in a while with my DE.

Sensor Excel.
The fewer blades the better.

EDIT: oh, wait. We're talking disposable. Well then something with only 2 blades.

I got a 5/$1 pack at Dollar General, and the one shave I tried was almost as good as my DEs, couldn't quite get BBS in some spots, but I was very pleased. Going to try it again to see how many shaves it provides. It's a twin blade with a "lubricating strip(?)"

For four months, I have not been shaving with anything but DE and once a SE. To be honest, the temptation to shave with a disposable BIC is there. I am afraid as soon as I get a great shave with BIC I will leave all recently bought DEs and the SE alone for good. :)

After all that practice, you can get a great shave with just about anything because your technique is better and your prep is better so of course the BIC will give you a great shave. It would still be more satisfactory to have some heavy metal behind the blade, though, so I wouldn't worry about that. :)

You know, you have got a point! My prep is much better (and longer) because of the knowledge I gained from all the great people on this forum. Do not get me wrong, I really would love to shave with those shiny and perfectly built instruments, but lets give credit to BIC (or Personna) engineers who created those great inexpensive disposables.

By the way, I started wet shaving gee.. almost 40 years ago and it sure was a DE. Later disposables took over... Now back to DE, or at least trying to be back. :)

I thought that using a disposable was a good plan for travel. I was wrong. Now I plan well and travel with my DE. I suppose I may try some of the more highly-scored models mentioned here but then I would just miss my DE.

Agreed. After learning to shave with a safety razor, any half decent razor will do. It makes you wonder how we all survived before we learn proper technique. No wonder so many used to have bad shaves.

Probably the reason safety razors fell out of favor originally with the general populace: you just got some kind of razor, and used some kind of blade, and some kind of soap, and pulled it over your face too many times, and got nicks and weepers and burns, and figured it must be the razor's fault.

I think I could use the Bic razors. My face used to get so beat up before I started DE shaving. I don't think I could ever go back to using cartridge razors. Maybe I could if I still had a brush and soap, but I wouldn't be happy about it.

I never tried an injector razor, but a single blade disposable must be very close to one. I never liked multiblade cartridges or electrical razors.
