Good deal?

It's probably a fair price for this one considering the condition. If it cleans up nicely with little plate loss then it's a good deal. I normally steer clear if it looks this bad.

I think that the damage has gone thru the plating and will not clean up. Just my opinion.

The 40's Aristocrat is a superb shaver and the plating will not affect the shave. That is a good price if the razor is mechanically intact,....no let me restate that, it is a very good price!:001_smile

I'm always leery of really crusty razors, if the razor was mechanically sound the seller could have gotten a much higher price just by giving is a simple wash.

I do not like all the green. I got an Aristocrat for $16 at an antique mall a couple of weeks back. THe box was a little cruddy, but nothing like that one. Thje razor is in good shape with just minor plate loss.

I saw that auction. Looks like they put a wet razor in it and left it there for 30 years. It might turn into a fine shaving razor after you clean up the corosion assuming it is mecanically sound, but I would rather buy a nice looking nickel plate SuperSpeed for about half the price.

I just do not think the gold plated and varnished razors do not clean up as nice as a nickel plate. I usually look for a gold razor to be in reasonably good shape to begin with. If it cannot be cleaned with dish sooap and water, it is probably not worth it for me.

I was looking at that too. If it was nickel, it might clean up o.k., but gold.... You usually end up with not much more than you started with. The only gold that gets looking that bad is gold that isn't there anymore.

Ii have aristocrats that I got for about that price with less cleaning required, though both fairly serious plate loss and it was obvious from the first. If there is some plate loss, it is a more or less fair price, if it cleans up nice, it is a good deal.

I have had some really ratty Gold plated ones clean up nice.

Don't underestimate the laziness of an e-bay seller.
How many have you seen them with hair still on them? I mean, how hard is it to rinse off old wiskers for crying out loud.

Of course, don't underestimate the possibility that they could be selling you crap too!
