Gold tang sealer

Would a thin layer of clear nail polish work to seal the tang on a razor so the gold doesn't get rubbed off with use?

Is there something else that would work to do the same thing and not damage the gold?

The problem is that both the gold and the sealer will get rubbed off the tang when you close the razor, and nail polish might interfere with it closing. If there are washers on the tang then it might work. Gold is too much trouble for me, and when it’s worn the razor looks like an over-the-hill Vegas showgirl.
