Gold Damaskeene?

It was probably a gold wash that has mostly worn away. What you’re looking at on the cap is mostly brass. The handle was probably swapped years back with a standard steel handle.

I would say your accurate on that one Jim with the gold wash. They put a light wash of gold to attract possible consumers to their product over time it slowly disappears from use.
