Gold Aristocrat Jr.

Just happened up on this user grade Aristocrat Jr. odd thing is it's done in Gold finish.. Got to looking for any info on these and there is virtually none. A picture on Mr Razor's website confirms I'm not imagining things. I even read on one forum where it said they weren't produced and it was probably a gold razor in a Aristocrat jr. case. Well I don't have the case but I do have the razor. As with alot of Gillette gold razors the finish is almost worn off the doors and the handle is a bit worn in places but still pretty nice. The bottom plate is virtually unworn and gives a great indication how beautiful this razor was in pristine condition.
Any info on it would be greatly appreciated, tales, urban legends, that sort of stuff is OK too. Any idea of how many were made?? Mr Razor has it as "1949?" any confirmations on that??
So here it is:

Are we sure it is gold plating, it almost looks like it was originally nickel plated over brass and the nickel wore away so much that what remains is the core brass metal...I am only.guessing, I am definitely not an expert.

On second glance it sure looks overly golden. Nice find nonetheless!

I know you can't go wrong with an Aristocrat Jr. even if it was painted pink!! Pretty sure it was gold at one time and still is mostly. The underside of the head still is pretty intact and there is gold where it nomally doesn't get much contact to get brassing. If it was just the handle I'd agree with the brass.. but I'm no expert either..

Great score! You'll see a few gold Rockets but not many like yours, congrats.

Can't say that I've seen or heard of a gold AJ before. Congrats on this find. The worn finish of the doors speaks to what a great shave these are.

its an aristocrat jr alright, i am not sure if i am right about this, but i seem to remember one of the canadian posters on here having a gold aristo jr, it may have been sleddog.

Nice one! It's is definitely a Gold Aristocrat Jr. Mr- Razor has one on his site with a case, and I think it was determined that the ad below may also have been a Gold Aristocrat Jr set.
