What's new

Going to try Barbasol tomorrow

I picked up a travel can of Barbasol red today. I'll be taking a trip with the family soon and I want to see if this will be a good alternative to my brush and soap since I don't think bringing either of those things along will be practical. I used to get the best shaves from Barbasol back in the before time when I shaved with a Gillette Good News disposable. I haven't used Barbasol for years and never with a DE. I remember trying all the different shave gels out there, and Barbasol always worked the best for me.

If it works out, my travel kit this time around will be:
Ballend Tech
Astra SP blades
Travel can of Barbasol
Captain's Choice A/S in a one ounce travel container

See if you can't find the Barbasol yellow with lanolin.
If you have to use canned goo then Barbasol is the way to go, at least in the Chicago burbs I've seen the Barbasol yellow in independent grocery stores and slighly smaller "modern" looking cans in some Dollar Tree stores.

Yep, tried all of the gels and creams out there and Barbasol was the best for me too. I haven't used it in a long time but would get it for traveling.

I used the Barasol Yellow to break in my son's baseball gloves/mitts. Smear a good handful of foam into the leather until it is absorbed, then go play catch for a while. Repeated the treatment every couple of days until the leather was nice and soft. It always kept the leather BBS.

Barbasol was my cream for a couple decades. Cannot go back now. Just doesn't feel right. A stick and travel brush is too impractical?

We'll be staying at the homes of two different in-laws, and I probably won't have a convenient space to leave a brush out to dry between uses. If the Barbasol provides me with a good shave tomorrow then I'll just use that. If not, I'll bring my soap and brush.

Have you considered some shave oil? I tried that on my last trip and preferred it to the canned goo. Way back when I was a fan of the Yellow Barbasol as well, but not sure I could go back. Still, gotta' love that Barbasol smell.

I was in a rush the other day and had to bust out the Barbasol & a Schick disposable. I hadn't used them in some time and was actually surprised by the odor. I had forgotten just how much like paint this stuff smells. It worked okay though nowhere near as well as a brush & real cream.

I am sure the Barbasol will do a decent job. It would be funny if towards the end of your vacation, you are thinking: " Jeez, I can't wait to get home and make some nice lather."

Actually, in the middle of my shave this morning I was thinking that I wished I would have just used my brush a soap.

Barbasol worked OK. It gave an effective shave, but not as good as with soap and a brush. It does smell a little like paint, and it kind of had a warming sensation on my skin. It almost burned a little which I think is a bad sign. I probably shouldn't use it. I think I'll just bring my brush and soap with me.

I picked up some La Toja canned foam in Spain last summer before I could find the stick. It is the only foam I'd consider applying to my face now. The post shave feel is the same La Toja feel, too. It'll probably never happen, though, as I can face lather with the stick and a travel brush.

I just so happened to try the Barbasol red last night. To make a long story short I was trying to replicate a problem being had by a friend and that was the only canned goo I had on hand. It does the job, but a second run with my Mama Bear/Williams/VDH frankensoap was much smoother.

I still use Barbasol in a pinch. It is easy to travel with. One thing I discovered, while Barbasol works great out of the can with the new cartridge razors, whenever I use it with a straight or DE, I've got to spray it into a badger brush and apply that way. Just doesn't work with a hand application.
