Go to the Old Spice website and post a blog to create spin on the Shulton original!

Hello,

I just posted a blog on the Old Spice website in relation to my wish that Shulton's deep spicy original returns. I kept the blog positive. I hope that those men that share my wish should attempt to create a spin for Old Spice lovers who may never have had a chance to enjoy this true classic. The classic cologne I remember as a young boy at the barber shop. This, the scent that will forever remind me of my Grandfather and Uncles.

Remember companies such as Proctor and Gamble only respond to spin if they feel that they could "cash in" on the "hot topic". This means that if any of you would take the time to blog on the P&G O.S. site, make sure to hype the idea so as the company may see the return of Shulton's formula as worth while.

Here is a synapsis of what to include.

1-Try to excite a sense of curiosity in P&G's customer base.
2-KINDLY try to persuade any customers visiting the site as to "Join the cause".
3-Hype the product as a sure money maker (we know it is).
4-Include any positive information (remember this is a sales pitch).

THINGS IN WHICH TO REFRAME FROM SAYING.

1-anything mean spirited or cruel
2-anything vulgar
3-anything negative about P&G

You can catch more flies from honey than you can vinegar.
If you find this fool hearted plea encouraging, tell your dads, brothers, friends and family to blog the Old Spice website as well.

I'd also suggest linking to threads on this site, or others, that talk about how much people MISS the old formula! I'd even accept the crappy plastic bottles if they had the original scent in them. This is a great idea though. My only concern is that with P&G buying Art of Shaving, they'll feel like they've already got a niche market covered.

Actually, perhaps having P&G owning AoS could help this cause. If P&G believed that there is a premium priced market for original Old Spice this could be a product that fit into the AoS brand. I'd love to see AoS add a fragrance line - with soap, balm, AS all built around the orginal Old Spice scent. I think this would be a winner for AoS.

That's a good point. Especially since they (AoS) only offer three scents right now. Plus, with the way original Old Spice is selling on eBay, it's not hard to see that there's definitely a desire. I got outbid SEVEN TIMES last week on Original Old Spice products! :mad3:

Here, here, and huzzah! for this idea. I'd considered writing P&G previously, regarding the resurrection of original Old Spice products, especially the shaving soap. I too recall the scent of the OS puck sitting on my Grandfather's sink as a kid. Little did I know that by the time I became interested in vintage wetshaving the old workhouse of America's shavers would be put out to pasture. Problem is, if they somehow decided to bring it back, even as a limited edition, or holiday giftset....I'd be afraid they'd want to price it in the area of the insane Ebay prices. Old Spice was meant for the working man, at a decent price. Any reincarnation of said product would not be brought back for any sense of nostalgia, as we hold it dear, but be purely profit driven by the likes of P&G. That was the reason they killed the original line in the first place. Even if it did come back, and was readily available. I don't think I could justify spending near fifty dollars for it.

It would be an interesting experiment though, Yardley would be the next project, along with Pen's to bring back original formula English Fern. These are all soaps I'd love to try, but until I find some at a garage sale, or thrift store, I wont be paying the prices I've been seeing since coming to B&B. If that keeps me out of the more money than brains club by default then so be it, and before I get a bunch of nasty responses from other B&B'ers whose feelings I may have hurt, don't be offended...all I'm saying is that it's a little ridiculous the prices this stuff is going for, as well as the fact that we are the ones bidding against each other raising the prices that the market will bear.

Yeah. Each time I got the "sorry you lost" message, I kept wondering if it was a B&B'er who was outbidding me! As a B&Ber, I was driving up the price for them by bidding over and over as well.

It's a nice thought, and I suppose anything is possible. My opinion, though, is that if P&G does bring back the original Old Spice formula (which is a long shot), it won't be part of AOS. For two reasons: one, Old Spice was and remains a drug-store/supermarket brand, whereas AOS is seen as upscale. That means the two brands don't mix, and whatever else P&G might do to crappify AOS products, I don't think they'll want to mess with the perception of the brand's cachet. Second, AOS is all about natural (or seemingly natural), essential-oil based products, plus a couple related colognes. Again, Old Spice doesn't fit within this model.

Keep on keeping on with the campaign, though. It takes a lot to move corporate mountains, but you never know...it could work.

I agree with the latter statement. Old Spice is (and has always been) an affordable cologne readily available at barbershops and drug stores. Leave AOS as it is . A seventeen dollar bottle of TRUE SHULTON Old Spice would be acceptable. Maybe even twenty dollars could be deemed appropriate. Ultimately, the focus of this campaign should be such...

To attempt to arouse curiosity in those that have never smelled TRUE OS to pressure P&G to return to the true formula- via P&G"S Old Spice web page blog site. We should attempt to create a "hyped craze" in a positive fashion, much like Apple has done with the I POD.
