Glycerin aftershaves

I like the way aftershaves with glycerin make my skin feel after shaving, very smooth and hydrated. Some I've had good results with are aqua velva musk and English leather. These are fairly strong scented however, and I'd like to find a mild scented aftershave alcohol splash with glycerin that has little staying power. I also can't use products with menthol, as these irritate my skin.

Besides the route of adding glycerin to my aftershaves, what alcohol splash aftershaves are good that have glycerin, are mild scented, and have NO menthol?

Considering your individual needs, you're better off just using your own glycerine. It's relatively inexpensive stuff and readily available. Considering your sensitive skin, I would suggest adding it to the Aubrey Organics line, specifically North Woods. It's a light, soapy, woodsy AS available at whole foods for about ten bucks.

I think Booster's contains glycerin.... and a bunch of them smell REALLY nice to boot!

Master Musk would be a good choice for you. Alcohol, glycerine and a light scent, especially considering you like the AV Musk as this one is no where near as strong scent wise.

Master's Bay Rum also has some glycerin. In general you can just check the ingredients of anything you are interested in and see if it has glycerin. You can always add some to any aftershave, only about 2 drops per ounce to start. Some fellas suggest a drop of glycerin in your palm then add your AS and try that but that seems like too much for me. I don't like the sticky feeling of too much glycerin.

Do you know which ones don't have menthol? And do you find them moisturizing?

Booster doesn't have menthol. It's not in the ingredient list and stuff like Polar Ice is simply blue without any menthol, I had to add my own. If you are really not sure (when you see Iced lime it could be another one that make you go huh), try stuff like mosswood, oriental spice or bay rum. All nice IMO.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think for now, I might try experimenting with adding glycerin to aftershaves I already like. I prefer a scent that dies quickly since I enjoy wearing cologne and don't like them clashing, I just to smell AS for a few minutes after applying while it does its job then dissipates. I think I might try adding glycerin to my Dominica. Any suggestions for amounts?

I'm not sure how sticky you like things, but I think glycerine somewhere in the neighborhood of 3% should satisfy you. In a fluid pint, or 473 ml, a teaspoon will roughly amount to 1%. Of course if it's not enough, you can always add more!

Part of the reason everyone loves Floid so much ... glycerin. It makes the face feel great, unlike a lot of others which are largely scent, water and a bit of alcohol.

I'm just now noticing that North Woods actually contains glycerine, in addition to aloe juice. This stuff might be right up your alley.

Just checked some of my after shaves for glycerine and alcohol. Interesting enough Geo. F. Trumper Skin Food West Indian Extract of Limes has both. Never realized it contained alcohol from applying it to my skin. The scent of the Skin Food is very pleasant to me and stays only a very short time on my skin. While a bit pricy, a little of this goes a long way.

The other one is Mandom Lucido with both wanted ingredients. Lucido is for all purposes scentless when applied to the skin.

If you are willing to try an after shave without glycerine, I would also suggest Speick. The herbal scent only lasts for a short time and as many others have posted in this forum, it has very good skin properties. Of course there is always the YMMV factor.

I heard about Lucido and it sounded right up my alley but, alas, it has menthol in it. I like the smell and short lived longevity of Dominica, and it feels good on the skin, so I'm hoping that adding glycerin will be my solution.

I like to use witch hazel in a spray bottle before applying my aftershave "splash" (typically containing alcohol). The trick is that I have added a few drops of pure glycerin to the witch hazel spray bottle ahead of time. If I had a fridge in my bedroom, I'd keep the bottle of witch hazel/glycerin in there..... that would be very refreshing. This way, I don't worry too much about what splash I'm using..... as long as it smells good and it has alcohol in it to kill the germs. Any extra "skin goodies" in the aftershave splash is just icing on the cake.

I'm not sure that Master's BR has glycerin in it? At least I didn't notice it on my bottle this morning, but I've read that there's been some re-branding on this so maybe the formula has changed some too...

Master's Bay Rum does have a generous helping of glycerin in it.

Correction! I just checked my bottle of Master's Bay Rum and there is no glycerin on the label. It does contain bay oil, so maybe that's where I was getting the impression it has glycerin. Man, it sure FEELS like glycerin.

Trumper Skin Food only contains a very small amount of alcohol (as a component of the fragrance).

Also worth noting is that it does contain menthol (again, only a small quantity).

Thanks,
Mike
