Glock gen 3 or Gen 4

The Glock 26 I bought the other day is a Gen 3 with Gen 4 clips. Since the recoil spring is the same and I like the grips on the Gen 3 I saw no reason not to buy it.

What are some other opinions especially on the full size where they changed the spring.

I have no trouble with the older, smaller, mag release or the older stock grip size. The most interesting part of the Gen4 is the dual recoil spring setup.

Having a Gen3 Glock 30 .45 that has a similar spring, I really do believe the dual spring assembly takes the edge off the recoil. The 30 shoots just as well as the full-size 21.

I'd like to rent or try a Gen 4 23 and 21 to see how they compare to my older ones.

Not to hijack the thread, but could someone please educate me on Glock magazine generations? All the Glocks I've owned have been Gen1-Gen2. Are you all saying there is now some kind of difference in later generation mags? Can I still find mags for my Gen2 G17?

I like the Gen 3 grips better, I test shot the Gen 4 a few times, but always ended up with a sore hand from the extreme stipling on the grips. This helped with the decision to get a Gen 3 34.

Good question. The mag release can be switched to left hand on the gen 4. So the new mags have a notch on either side xepending on your zet up. The way I understand it the new mags will work in all Glocks. You just cant use an old one in the Gen 4 if you reverse it to left hand.

I agree with you Rudy. I like the idea of being able to modify the grip but I hate the feel of it.

I went back and forth for a while before buying my Glock 19. I ended up with the gen 3 because of the grip. After spending some time using it, I'm glad I did. The gen 4 feels nice, but I can see its finish getting old if you shoot it a lot in one range trip.

Same as me, Rudy. I just could not get used to the Gen 4 grips.

Thanks for the explanation- sounds like I am safe.

I like the Gen 4 G 19. I started off with the slimmest grip and now use the medium grip. Several thousand rounds later it is my go to EDC most of the year.

I have the Gen 4 Model 23. The grips are a little rough but dont really hurt the hand while shooting. I have probably put a good 500 rds through mine in the last 7 months. Also, I just ordered a 357 sig barrel so now I can shoot 40 cal and 357 sig with the same gun.

I ended up with a Gen4 22 after hemming and hawing. No problems with the grip hurting my blue collar work hands ;-). You brain surgeons probably have a harder time tho'

I have a Gen 4 Glock 34. I went Gen 4 primarily because I liked the larger mag release. I have kind of small hands, and it was easier for me to reach without changing my shooting grip. I like the idea of the replaceable backstraps, but I just stick with the smallest grip configuration. The extreme stippling doesn't bother me at all, I actually like it.

I must have short thumbs cause I can't release the mag without altering my grip. :(

I have a Gen 2 G19, Gen 3 G23 & G30 and a G32 barrel in .357 sig that can drop into my G23 and basically gives me 4 compact Glocks in 4 different calibers.

I have shot the Gen 4's on several occasions and like it. I don't think there is enough differences in design between the Gen3 or 4 that would personally give me a preference of one over the other. While the 4 has interchangeable backstraps, the Gen 3's compact models fit my small hands quite efficiently.

The stipling on the 4's while more agressive, the Gen3's stipling on the front and rear straps are more than adequate and definitely better than the Gen2's. I do think the Gen 4's recoil spring is better designed, there still hasn't been a fault published with the 3's as far as I know.

Does anyone know if the newly designed recoil spring in the Gen 4 can be switched out in the Gen 3?
