Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban

What a beautiful scotch!

This has become my favorite drop of any kind after having tried many.

A truly unique scotch that stands head and shoulders above all the 30 or so others I have tried. I rate it better than all of those drinks and it can go toe to toe with many of the big fellas too.$$$$$$$$$$

Give it a try, I guarantee you will enjoy it. It will always hold a place on my shelf!

Anyone else tried this beauty from Glenmorangie?

ps, I left a review in the review section.

Agreed. I had this before they changed the name to Qunita Ruban aka. Port Cast Extra Matured. If you ask me there're getting a little too trendy with the names. IMHO.

I didn't know about the name change, or even if it's the same drop.

Man this has a great body, thick n velvety yet powerful. I have a greater appreciation for scotch and thought maybe bourbon might be my go to but this beauty has changed that.

I picked up a bottle several months ago -- my port wood options were running really thin and I hadn't tried it yet. Definitely a very pleasing bottle -- they've really nailed the flavor and sweetness balance. IIRC, it recently won a pretty major award. Not too shabby for a <$50 bottle.

Thanks for reminding me I had that in my cabinet (next to the Zima). I think I'll pour myself a dram or two later tonight.

Agreed, it is a really nice single malt. The name change came with the sale of Glenmorangie to a French company (Paris-based Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton). Some of the offerings were dropped, like the Madeira Wood Finish, and all the names were changed except for the Glenmorangie standard. The bottles changed as well and now look a bit more like wine bottles IMO.
Torcams is correct that the Abv in Quinta Ruban is higher than the older Port Wood Finish (46% vs. 43%).

The higher prices come, in part, due to the new owners trying to position Glenmorangie as a luxury brand. There is a article about it here.

They say in the article that the Madeira Wood Finish was renamed Nectar d'Or however since Nectar d'Or is finished in Sauternes casks, it would be correct to say that Nectar d'Or has replaced the Madeira Wood Finish.

Back to the Quinta Ruban - I don't taste a big difference between the old Port Wood Finish and the newer Quinta Ruban despite the slight alcohol content change. I like them both but I liked the old prices much better! :001_tongu
