Glasses

I realized this week that I can't shave without wearing my glasses. I'm 47. Anyone else had to cope with this aging issue?

I shave without my glasses, but my eyes aren't that bad. I can only recall once since this wetshaving-ride began that I had corrective lenses for my shave (contacts) and it didn't help or hinder me in any way. Actually, I've wondered if I might get better results if I could figure out/learn how to shave by feel rather than by sight...

I have to put my contacts in before I shave. If I wear my glasses, they get all foggy and wet in the shower.

I suffer from the same problem. My first solution was to use a fog free mirror (oxymoron) in the shower, one that magnified 6X. It worked OK, but when I shave at the sink I find that I am taking off and putting on my specs multiple times. Can't think of a good solution, though--sorry.

Oh, yeah--I just turned 48 this week--one of the drags of getting older, I guess!

When I shave in the shower I am able to be 6-12 inches from the mirror, which is about the limit of my visual acuity. When I am at the sink, glasses are not optional if I want to keep my facial features intact. - Justin

I had Lasik done in 2003 because all of my life I couldn't see more than a foot in front of my face w/o my glasses. It was the best thing I ever did!

I have a mirror in the shower so that helps. Luckily, I do not need as much detail when I shave as when I read and so shaving at the sink is doable.

Lasik would not help me in the long run as at age 46, I am having now my reading affected at close differences. I will need bifocals for glasses next time, and my contacts might need that as well. I have astigmatism and my eyes are losing their muscularity I am told and so, I can not read as well up close. With contacts, I have one for farsightedness and one for nearsightedness and it tricks my eyes. I am 20-15 in one eye, but I can not thread a needle.

Happy Stinkin' Birthday, man!

At 19 my eyes are terrible. I just lean in really close. If I get contacts I imagine it'd make the job easier, but glasses are too much of a hindrance coming out of the shower.

I've shaved while wearing glasses (near sighted) almost all my life. A couple years ago, a new period of adjustment was needed when I went to bifocals.

I am farsighted. I can see cherries on the trees in the north 40. Computer screens, shaving mirrors, etc., are too close for me. I have trifocals (well, bifocals with clear glass on top), and they work okay so long as I hold my head still. So, I don't use them for shaving, and I don't see detail at mid-range. Oh, I can see the razor and my head, my nose, but it is fuzzy. I got used to shaving in the shower without a mirror years ago. Now I shave in front of the mirror. I hold the razor with my right hand and "see" with my left. I always close my eyes on tricky places. It works for me, but my "seeing" fingers are never happy with anything short of BBS.

Last year I had cataracts removed from both eyes and new lenses put back in. The cataracts slowed my shaving routine down and I had to rely mainly on memory to do the job. Basicly rub and feel where I needed more work.

Now with the new lenses implanted in my eyes the job of shaving is much easier. The only tough part before the new implants was getting the sideburns the same length.

I still wear glasses while shaving to get the sharp detail but aren't really needed. :thumbup1:

23 here and I can hardly read a piece of paper without them let alone shave, or try to find something in the cupboard. Use my glasses with my DE but find contacts make using a straight much easier

I had PRK in 2006 and now I'm 20/15 in both eyes although I have just started to need cheaters for reading. Before I had it done It was contacts or the seeing eye dog shaved me.

I've shaved with glasses on for 40 years or so, except for those days when I used to shave in the shower. Now I just keep the glasses on as I use my straight razors. Enjoy the experience!

Blind as a bat without my specs. Usually shave in the shower, but on the 5-6 times per year when I shave at the sink, it's without glasses. My eyesight is SO bad that to see properly without them on, I'd have to be 5-6 inches away from the mirror. Over the years, I've gotten used to shaving "blind".
