I've been curious If it would be possible to make a glass straight razor. I've seen the glass scales but I am talking about the blade itself.
dumb question?

At least its different from the ceramic razor question that seems to crop up every three months or so.
But the answer is still no. If you can't make a knife out of it, theres no hope of making a razor out of it.
I beg to differ on the knife part wikipedia. You can make a knife, then shouldn't you be able to make a razor? Maybe someone could fill me in.
And the diamond, I see no reason why it wouldn't hold an edge, but I bet it would be a pain to sharpen.
You linked me a ceramic knife. The question was about a glass razor. I don't see the confusion.
And yes, even though you can make a knife out of it, it doesn't mean you can make a razor out of it. But first you need the knife. Then we can talk razor.
All that said. Obsidian razors have existed throughout history. And obsidian is pretty similar to glass. Being volcanic glass IIRC. Either case, you don't want to shave with that.
Someone should try to make a straight razor out of adamantium.

It has been done. Actually they made two three-day-sets. But its hard to get hold of them, the owner has a hard time letting them go.
Aside from steel, and assuming that price is no object, what other options are actually viable for razor making? I would imagine that most of the precious metals are too soft, some of the specialty metals too hard, most other materials unable to hold an edge at that thinness. Any suggestions?
Ceramics is theoretically possible, but in practice... it hasn't happened and smart people have tried really really hard.

How about plasma? I think you could have one in which the blade could be extended and also the actual colour of the blade could be chosen by the person who made it. These blades would not be for everyone and indeed one would require some natural talent and years of training.
glass scales, what a great idea!!!
my brother-in-law is a glass artist in training... hmmm... that's got me thinking!
