Gillette Thermal Face Scrub- WEIRD!

So I got a sampler of Gillette's new Thermal Face Scrub. Gave it try.

A couple of seconds after it hits your hands, it feels super heated. A very odd sensation that pretty much startled me.

I don't know how they accomplish that chemically, but it's downright scary.

It's okay as a face scrub I guess but it seems more gimmicky than anything. Another trick to sort of simulate hot lather or barbershop experience I suppose.

Sounds pretty trippy. I never was a fan of chemical heating products, it never feels quite the same as something that's genuinely warm.

i'm not sure how wise it is to start an exothermic reaction on your face. what kind of chemicals are required for the heating? i'm not sure i want to know...

Sounds like the same idea as Billy Jealousy Hot Towel (which has been around for several years now). Although the Hot Towel isn't a scrub, just a pre-shave prep.

I tried it, I don't know what use the heat is, it dissipates so quickly. The scrub is not bad but I don't think they need the heating gimmick.

Supposedly, a TON of glycerin may cause a warming effect.
It may have capsaicin in it, which is the chemical in chili peppers that gives them heat.
A lot of other spices/herbs can also make a warming effect.
Beyond that, I agree - sounds weird. I'll take a hot towel, warmed with WATER (which we all know and love ), any day.

That's right ,
it works well as a scrub but as for the heating it fade away by the time you rinsed your face.

I agree. I also tried it and was not impressed whatsoever. The heat dissipated within 2 or 3 seconds. Literally.

Not worth the $$$$.

Makes me wonder if those chemical heaters we got with our MREs could be repackaged and sold as high falutin' shaving gear...

Is it an exothermic reaction (does it actually raise the temperature) or just make you feel heat (the same way menthol make you feel cold)?

Either way, its no substitute for a hot shower or hot towel.

I think it's the second...some sort of ingredient that simulates "hot" in the way menthol simulates "cool."

It's fun, but as a practiced wet shaver, it's rather silly. An attempt to give the average schmo wacking his way through a boring shave a simulation of something old "barbershoppy."

Not a bad scrub though.

I only used it once but it definitely freaked me out. It's a quick and fairly intense heat. Don't think I'll touch the stuff again.

Capsaicin around the nose and mouth = DANGER Will Robinson!

I used to race bikes and in early spring/inclement conditions would use herb/capsaicin based products to keep legs warm. Not fun to inadvertently get in your "soft" places but definitely effective at their job!

Gillette's been in this business for years; does anyone seriously think they would be napalming our faces to produce heat? The answer to how Gillette's Thermal Face Scrub works is as clear as the list of ingredients.

The "magic" ingredient of their "heating technology" is niacinamide, basically a vitamin that also produces vasodilation. NO CHEMICAL EXOTHERMIC REACTION IS INVOLVED. All that happens is your skin flushes and becomes warm. YOU produce your own heat (the preferred method!).

High concentrations of this vitamin are present in dermatology and over-the-counter blemish/acne creams. Men using this are at risk of having nicer looking faces, but since it is rinsed off, don't count on much.

The usual WARNINGS apply. For instance, do not trowel on with a spatula while drunk and then fall asleep under the blazing sun while pregnant. Do not scrub and shave your eyeballs with this product.

I remember Trojan came out with a similarly themed product....now that was gimmicky! This also sounds gimmicky. I honestly wouldn't even try it. It comes down to the question of what makes it "thermal". Fun read though, you can PIF it or something.

Me too , got it a while back as a SAmple, dont think they sell here though...

It actually gave me a great Preshave, glad to see it wasnt too ''chemical-y''...
