What's new

Gillette Tech Question

I have a 79 Gillette Tech made of aluminum that I picked up in an antique store for a couple bucks. It looks brand new. It's one of a number of recent acquisitions I'm trying out.

I've been using my 40 gold tech (Seems smooth and mild) for the past week and just switched to the 79 Gillette tech and was a bloody mess (Slight exaggeration) afterwards. Does this razor have a tendency to be more aggressive or was I just rushing?

I also picked up an Alum Tech recently and shaved with it.

It wasn't more or less aggressive than my other Techs.

What it did remind me of is a Bic Sensitive disposable.

Very light and easy to use.

Only problem was it is so light that I found myself apply pressure to counter the lightness. Which is not a good idea.

Personally, the Alum Tech is a great razor and a nice replacement to disposables when I'm in a rush.

In fact I'm going to leave the house today and donate all my remaining disposables to a Veterans Shelter.

I'm not going to use them anymore.

Kudo's on the donating guys :thumbup1:.

For A_Jameson, a question. How are you dating your Techs? Curious, as the Wiki says they ran until 1973. Of course, the Wiki is not infallible, for example it says the Tech ran from 1939, when in fact there were some in 1938. Of course the earliest ones had no dates codes either, so for the '40 I assume you are using packaging or blades that came with it?

My view is that the older triangular hole Techs are a bit more aggressive than the later ones. The thing is that these razors are lightweight, especially the aluminum ones. That might lead to applying pressure, especially if you moved from a fat handle to a ball or something like that.

How am I dating my tech's? Well, I'm going to sites like Mr. Razor and seeing which ones they look like. I'm not seeing any years or serial numbers on the razors so I'm going by which ones they look identical to.

Ok, it's not a tech. My mistake. I don't know where I got that from. It's just a 1979 Gillette DE razor.
