Gillette Tech + Derby Blade + VDH Glycerin = YMMV

I just decided to try it. My budget shave. I washed my face off with a bit of soap and wet my brush, a VDH badger and started to load. I simply wet the puck a bit and my brush was nice and wet. I started to face lather after load my soap for about 20 seconds. I was able to build a nice lather. I started my first pass using only north to south strokes. I was suprised by how smooth my first pass was. I did not feel any pulling at all. I normally feel some pulling around my jaw line and lower neck. I then rinsed and reapplied my lather and did my second pass south to north. Again no pulling all. I then lathered for the third time had to load more soap. This third pass was just a south to north touch up. I was quite suprised on how smooth the blade seemed. It did not feel as sharp as others like Red pack personnas, my current favorite blade. I have also tried Astras, Feather, Wally World Wilkinsons and sharks. Final result was an acceptable shave. My neck was the least smooth. All around close to a bbs shave not bad at all. I will continue to try this blade in my other razors. What did a learn today? YMMV. After reading so many bad things about the Derbys I was going to give them all to my brother in law. I am glad I did try it.

Sounds almost like my usual go to shave.I use VDH Deluxe, a VDH Boar brush,a Gillette Knack and Wally World Wilkinson blades and works out fine all the time.i haven't felt the need to spend alot of money on expensive custom knot brushes, blades, and fancy exotic soaps. So far I always get very great shaves with what i use.But like they say Ymmv

I've got the same setup, aside from the razor and blade. My sampler pack will arrive on Saturday, I think I might give the Derbys a whirl first.
