Gillette Super Adjustable plastic handle?

I just recently bought a Super Adjustable on eBay.
From posts I've read I get the impression that the handle is made out of plastic, but to me it seems more like it is really made out of metal. The reason for this is that the handle is very heavy and a few spots where the paint is missing looks like there is a shiny metal underneith.

Maybe I've just misread some posts stating it is plastic. Can anyone confirm this?

I haven't gotten around to try it out yet as my first brush and shaving cream has not arrived yet. Sure looking forward to it though.

Best Regards,

Peter

It is a textured acrylic resin coating over a brass base material.

Well that settles that! Thank you for your very quick reply. Still not a good idea then to boil this razor to disinfect it I assume.

Nope. Some people have reported distortion and discoloring of the resin coating when they boiled a Super adjustable. Barbicide or Marvicide works best for sterilization.
Be careful also in soaking the razor in any bathroom tile cleaners like Scrubbing Bubbles or the Swedish equivalent. Some people have reported that it bleaches the resin to a much lighter color. Spray on and rinse or toothbrush off should be okay.
Start with dish soap and a brush and you should get most of the soap scum. A soak in alcohol can kill most bacteria that would be on a razor but it's not 100% like Barbicide.

SA's seem to be finicky when it comes to cleaning products for sure....I would stick to a toothbrush and toothpaste...I ruined a nice one before :( you only need about 7 minutes in a fairly weak barbacide/water solution to kill ALL the bugs.

I recently acquired a long Super Adjustable with a NEW, Old Type and Super Speed.
I cleaned up the Super Speed as I already have the set and was planning on selling the SA as I don't remember it fondly from my experience with the short handle version back in the 70s.
But it was in very good condition so I have it a go and like the shave, my technique back in the day must have sucked.
Any way I cleaned the black handle with 303 Areospace cleaner and then treated it with 303 protectant, I use these products to clean and protect the convertible top on my car, so if they protect my vinyl top from the sun and weather they should work on this razor.
The black looks good nice and glossy.
