Gillette RFB Before & After

Had a great shave this morning followed by a wonderful Sunday Brunch with our son and daughter-in-law.

Nice relaxing Sunday so I decided to take the time to clean and Flitz my Gillette RFB 77. Here are some pics.

Not finished yet but certainly good enough to shave with it tomorrow.

I like patina on a razor but this one did not look good.

Got to do at least one or two more polishing sessions to get it shining brightly. Not too bad for the first go, though.

If I am not getting my razors confused, I believe that this one was advertised on the auction site as a #77 and came with a bakelight case (that is packed away).

You know vintage Gillettes a lot better than I do so we can certainly call it an English RFB or whatever it should be called and that's fine with me, too.

Appreciate the opportunity to learn.

NEW RFB is what the razor is.
#77 and #88 sets came with that same razor.
Gillette have assigned that numbers to the sets and not the razor.
It may have been sold as a part of set #77.

The RFB is one of the best Razors that Gillette ever made. I have 2 piece and a #44 three piece set. Love them both.
You did a great job with the cleaning.
Will this be your first Shave with it ?

Nice job on the cleanup. The RFB is a terrific razor. I went on a tear a while back and bought every RFB I could find that was in good shape, and at a decent price. I don’t regret that for a second. Enjoy the shave!

Hello, I'd clean the gaps of the teeth before using it.

Hi Adam,

It had a lot of crud when I got it so it's already been through two rounds of soaking in Dawn then scrubbing with a soft toothbrush and more Dawn then soaking in Isopropynol and finally soaking in Barbicide.

After polishing it, I scrubbed it with Dawn and a soft toothbrush to remove any Flitz residue.

I don't see any crud left between the teeth.

I couldn't resist and shaved with it once after thoroughly soaking, scrubbing and sanitizing but before polishing.

Its a really good shaving razor.

Can't wait to try it again now that it's looking better.
