Gillette Restoration

Just bought a '54 Superspeed Flair Tip on ebay in a really great condition. I would like to buff out some scratches and such and was wondering what some of the expert techniques are. Thought about using a dremel and some flitz. Didnt know if that was overkill for minor wear?

I am able to remove all scratched from razor heads by using a dremmel with a buffing pad and brasso polish. I recommend you practice on a beater throw away razor first though and make sure the dremmell is on low speed. It takes practice and a light touch so that you do not remove the plating.

NO flitz! The nickel plating is surprisingly delicate when subjected with an abrasive substance. I'd recommend Maas or Blue Magic. If you have "light hands" you can use a soft dremel cotton wheel (with multiple cotton disks) with jeweler's rouge to polish it but it's very risky. A lot of times the scratches are beneath the plating as the nickel acts as a "shirt" so there's not much you can do besides giving it a nice polish with Maas.

This man knows what hes talking about :biggrin1:

Just be really careful, you don't want to remove the plating.
